I was having a hard time trying to find out more about my great great grandmother Anna Elizabeth Schappe. I'm looking for anything in regards to where her family line spread out, as all I was able to find was that she was born on 10 MAR 1876 in Canada (supposedly french canada) and died on May 24th 1945. The only other tidbit I could see was the name of her father Maximillian Shappee, who may have been from Quebec. I think there are different spelling variations of the last name, (Schappe) but if anyone has any insight, it'd be appreciated. Thank you

There is a section in the brown at the bottom of each RootsChat page under "your tools" called "surname interests" - you can add your own surnames of interest in case anyone comes along later researching the same surname.

Thank you for the tool information for the surname search, I'll see if I can find anything from there. As for where she died, she passed away in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. I think also another variation of spelling was Shappel

That's them! Is there anything pertaining to Anna's father aside from just his name? or a birth town / providence? If not, that's okay and I can work with the information given. Thank you kindly!

Just throwing this out there:
If Anna had a brother Michael, there is a death reg. for him, and he was also buried at Holy Cross in Philly. His parents are noted as Maxim Shappee, and Mary Scott, both born Canada. Informant was a brother Edward Shappee, and date of death was 05 Oct 1933. Michael was born Canada, and was age 65.
I'm in a rush today, so I can't follow up if he is related, but I think he is worth looking into.

Hi there. First off, thank you for taking the time to assist, I appreciate it. I do not know of any of her siblings and was just basing off the fact that I know her Death Certificate had her father's name as Maximilian and she was always based as Canadian on census records. But that could be a strong lead! Alot of info seems to line up like city / father name and etc. So perhaps!

This could be them. I think the Marvin is actually Maxim but hard to tell due to the cursive.

They weren't brilliant at writing back then, could be many abbreaviations for Maximillian ;)

Tell me about it haha. It'd solve so many issues with misspelling if we knew their distinct styles

I think I found some entries that might be them, under the spelling of Shoppee. ::)
In the meantime, another Holy Cross burial that is very promising, mainly because the informant was a Dobbins:
Deceased: Jennie Marie Storm
Born Canada, 08 July 1878
Father: Maximillian Shappee
Mother's name unknown.
Informant: Mrs. Dobbins 1702 S Yewdall St (which is the same address as the deceased)
DoD 27 Apr 1878

Ah oddly enough I did find that out, but didn't have her associated with my main tree.
Thank you for referencing that!

Although the list of children on the censuses that Sandra posted aren't identical, I think they are the same family, which would point to Anna's parents being Maximillian and Mary Scott. They appear to be Catholic, so I'm surprised to see the lack of births showing in the Catholic Registers.
Here's the death index for Levy (His marriage/censuses/children are very easy to search in Washington State):
Name: Levi Peter Shappee
Gender: Male
Birth Date: abt 1865
Death Date: 22 Mar 1933
Age at Death: 68
Death Location: Seattle, King, Washington
Father: Maxsin Shappee
Mother: Mary Scott

Haha trust me, I have found like 7 different variations of the spelling and its driven me up a wall for a while, hence why I held off on trying to drive deeper into her family. Chapue would probably be the best bet when I head down looking for Maxim's family, as thats probably the cloest to the French origin of the name.

It doesn't help that their ages never match on their documents either!
These should all be viewable at Familysearch:

A couple more items from the Catholic registers (which are listed as Brewer Mills, but seem to have entries from the surrounding area as well, all shuffled together. The individual pages are not labelled as to which church they belong to)
Marie Chapue
born 13 July 1853
bapt 18 Sept 1853
parents - Maxime Chapue Marie Scott
Sponsors John Davis Christianna (Naddew?)
Priscille Chapue
born 04 Mar 1854
bapt 10 Sept 1854
parents - Maxime Chapue Marie Scott
sponsors Mathew O'Connor, Ann Smith
Burial:
Nov 19th 1879 in the cemetery of Brewers Mills was buried
the body of Maxime Chaput. Died on 17th age 52 (cancer)
Wit. Michael Tierney and James Tierney
And I can't help but think this old forum post has to be about your great uncles/cousins:

Well done bbart you managed to spur the thread forward again. Names and spellings eh ::)

Thanks Sandra, but you laid out the groundwork, so kudos to you!
The entry of daughter Mary marrying in Brewers Mills in1878 was a lucky find, as an 1874 directory states that the population of Brewers Mills was 75, which leads me to believe all the Shappees/Chappue/etc there have a very high probability of being related.
