Title: Relatives in Chile
Post by: bluedooo on Friday 11 January 19 19:50 GMT (UK)
Hi, I am helping my friend with her family history. Her grandfather Charles Henry Tytler was born around May 1895 in Antofagasta, Chile. He returned to Scotland, got married 1917 in Kilmarnock and  died 01 Oct 1959 in Glasgow.  His younger brother John Archibald Tytler born October 1896 remained in Chile and died 01 Feb 1935 in Santiago Chile.
I would like to find out what happened to John Archibald Tytler - who he married and any children with a view to making contact with this part of the family.
Any hints or tips to achieve the above would be most welcome.

Hi folks, thanks for the quick reply and good to get the exact DOBs.  Also see that there was a younger brother George born 23 Oct 1898 in Taltal, Antofagasta, Chile.
I am wondering if John later married in Chile and had a family.

I see that there are currently several people named Tytler in Chile, including an Archibaldo.  It can't be a very common surname there so they are probably somehow related to your friend.

These new names look very interesting.  It probably would only take one contact to open up this family to my friend here in Scotland - thank you

Had a look at Taltal through this page

https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1630787

and could only find a 1913 marriage I wondered if you had reference to

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01n8l/

second page and first marriage for 1913 Georgina Isabella Nelson Tytler

Just to note there is another Tytler marriage on that page, first one 1917

Thanks for your reply Willsy. These marriage entries are for the elder sisters of John, Charles and George Tytler.  My main aim here is to try and make contact with Tytler individuals living in Chile.  A previous reply found a Barbara Tytler professor of marine biology in Chile.  Trying to find a way to get a message to her and see if I can confirm the same ancestry - however the language is proving a problem for me.

Tom

I have now made contact with Barbara Tytler in Chile.  She is a great grand daughter of John Archibald Tytler.  This is the outcome I was hoping for.

Thank you all for taking the trouble to respond to my post - I am most grateful.

Kind Regards

Tom

That's great.  I'm glad you were able to get through and penetrate the language barrier.
