William Whitaker was born about 1838 in Mitton Yorkshire, his father was John who moved to Wales and became an iron founder. In 1871 John and some of his children are in Flintshire, William isn`t with them, in 1871 William Whittiker unmarried and born Mitton Yorkshire is a lodger in Bedford, Leigh, Lancashire, he is a machine fitter.
By 1881 he is in Wrexham with his father and two siblings who are single , William is a widower. His wife Ann died in 1878 aged 30 ( gravestone ).
Who was she ? I have no clues, there is nothing in the local papers and there are no children born in the Wrexham district and no grandchildren there in 1881.

There is a marriage which took place at St Johns, Deansgate, Manchester 23 August 1871 between a William Whitaker, bachelor aged 33 (this gives yob as 1838) and Annie Ross, spinster, aged 23 (this would make her 30 in 1878) William's occupation is Machinist. His father is John Whitaker, also a Machinist. Annie's father is Angus Ross, a Traveller. Witnesses are Sam and Alice Butterworth.

That looks good, I'm not on FindMyPast, but the other one. Thank you.

Was she a milliner, found a possible born Scotland in 1871 , a lodger in Hulme, Chorton.

The marriage entry doesn't give an occupation for Annie. They both give an address of Upper Duke Street, but exactly where that is isn't specified.
I have also looked for Whitaker/Ross births in Lancashire but can't see any.

I think John was one of the founders about 1878, they were a well known company, their old premises in Wrexham is now a bar called the Ironworks.
