Rathven is in Banffshire. It only became part of Moray in 1975.

According to the Valuation Rolls on Scotland's People, Knowhead and Rannas belonged to the Earl of Seafield.
The Seafield estate papers are in the National Records of Scotland. Two-and-a-half-tons of them, I believe. They include rental rolls for various parts of the Seafield lands - I got records of my ancestors in Rothes, including a letter written by my umpteenth-great-grandfather in 1771.
I just searched using 'Rannas' as a search term and GD248 which is the NRS catalogue number for Seafield Estates. There are rental books for Rannas in the early 1800s, including 1806.

Thanks again Forfarian.
