Post by: jenn270 on Saturday 19 January 19 01:39 GMT (UK)
Looking for the maiden name of Samuel Sutton's wife who is shown as Mary in the 1901 and 1911 census records. She was born in Wellenhall abt 1869.

I can’t see a marriage for them.

Although, there is one in 1927, at Swindon.  :-\

I think you're right! I can't even access the GRO site tonight (I'm in Canada) so your help is greatly appreciated.

Well, I have Samuel Sutton's wife & children sorted out but have no idea who his parents were. Info I have found says he was born in Priestfield in 1866 but not being familiar with Staffordshire place names I can't find him before the 1901 census. Suggestions as to where to look?

Priestfield is in Wolverhampton. There is a midland metro tramstop on the Birmingham to Wolverhampton line. The wellenhall you mentioned was probably Willenhall. If you google genuki and you choose englan, parishes and select Staffordshire and then check for them on there gives you background.

Thank you; I'll try that too. I have looked at maps but just can't zero in on which Samuel Sutton is the right one, especially since I can't find a record of his marriage either! His birth year varies too - somewhere between 1865-1870. Needless to say finding his death record is almost impossible.
