I am seeking help with information regarding Catherine Alice Aleder (the surname used when she married James Prayle in March 1888 in Mile End London). I believe she was born circa 1869 in Stepney and that her father was called Caspar. I have found a census entry for a Caspar Alader born circa 1830 in Hesse, Darmstadt given as a Lodger in the Tower of London. There is a marriage entry for Casper Allder to Jane Connor in the 4th qtr 1864 in St George in the East, London ref 1C 931 but this is all the information I have been able to find. Any help will be appreciated.

The parish register entry for Catherine's marriage gives Caspar's occupation as tailor; same occupation given on the marriage entry of Caspar and Jane. Caspar's father shown as Conrad, a cabinet maker.
Catherine's baptism (Catherine Alice Alleder) gives a birthdate of 9th March 1868 with her baptism on 9th January 1869 at St. George in the East, Stepney. Father Caspar, a tailor, and mother Jane. Address: 3 Pell Place, Pell Street.

Baptism of Frederick Charles, son of James and Catherine Alice Prayle in 1894 at St. Augustine, Stepney. James shown as a labourer.
A daughter, Matilda Lilian, baptised in 1889, same church but James shown as a sailor.
A son, Edward James, baptised in 1896, same church; James shown as a labourer.
Possible death and burial for James in 1939 in Stepney.

Possible burial as Alice Catherine Prayle, 19th October 1922, at City of London and Tower Hamlets Cemetery; address given as St. Andrew's Hospital, E3. Age shown as 54.
A James Prayle buried in same cemetery in January 1939.
1901 census has a J Prayle (1868), with wife Alice (1868), children Matilda (1890) and Joseph* (1901) living at 49 High Street, Bow. James shown as a navvy.
*Possible death in 1903.

Many thanks for that. Would you have any information on Caspers wife Jane Connor or would I have to start a new topic?

It is probably best to start a new topic so that you can keep any details separate.
The workhouse records on Ancestry have a few entries for members of the Prayle family and son Edward James could have reversed his names as there is a soldier with that name listed here:

The sister's married name is slightly wrong though!

Caspar Aleder seems to have had a brother Henry Philip Aleder, a dyer. He was a 59 yr old widower when he married Martha Ann Turner at St Peter, Hoxton Square on 25 January 1897. Father: Conrad Aleder (deceased), carpenter.
Henry Philip Aleder died in Holborn in 1916 aged 77.

There’s also Conrad Aleder who in 1871 is in Princes Square, Tower Hamlets (St George in the East) aged 45 and unmarried*, born Hesse Darmstadt. Possibly another brother of Caspar and Henry Philip.
*Though there’s a possible marriage in Ashton under Lyne in 1854 - Conrad Aleder, son of Conrad, to Elizabeth Becker daughter of Michael Becker.

Sorry if you have already but doesn't this look like C. Alice's birth:
GRO
ELLEDAR, ALICE mmn CONNOR
1868 M Quarter in SAINT GEORGE IN THE EAST Volume 01C Page 452
They're on the 1871 census as ELEDER.

Casper seems to die in 1878 as ALEDE.
Widow Jane (as HALLIDAY!) marries William SASS in 1878.
I can't see them in 1881 but in 1891 they're transcribed as SOSS. With them are Catherine Alice and her children.

Thanks for all your help. Does the marriage entry for Casper and Jane give her fathers name?
