Hi All,
Please could someone do a lookup for me if you can please?
My Grandfather was John William Wright born 21st Feb 1921, westhampnett, sussex. he joined the airforce about 1939 and was posted in south africa (so the story goes) he did get back home all in one piece around 1944/45 i have tried the national archives, but all that i have got is a headache and a mushy brain! find my past is messing up and has stopped me from getting in.
Please could anyone help me get his service number so that i can order his service records.
Thank you sooo much in advance
(must rest my brain now)
Regards

As far as I understand it the records for anyone serving after 1920 are still with the MOD - have you read here ???

AIR/78-176_1 is the relavant part of the free record of RAF service men and women that can be downloaded from the National Archives to find service numbers. Unfortunately, there are umpteen JW Wrights and as many John William Wrights so that is no help.
However, the form requires you fill it in as fully as possible. If you have his date of birth and the other details required then go ahead and apply leaving his number blank.
Sandra has given the link.
