Christine -- how old was Mary at death and where was she living please?
There was a burial in Lynton for a Mary Curtis, aged 88. Buried on 10 March 1861, but I don't know if this is the correct Mary without more information from you.

If her husband lived another 35 years after her death then perhaps she was a young woman when she died.

OP has another post but has not responded on it where this was suggested
This could be a possibility 1861 Census Civil Parish Landkey District Barnstaple
William Curtis age 58
Mary Curtis age 50
Charles age 7
Mary Curtis age 21 dressmaker ( Gro record 1839 mother maiden name Southwood )
All shown as being born Landkey
Rosie
ADDED In 1871 William was a widower

Oh dear I had clearly overlooked the 'husband' bit when I found the 88 year old Mary!! Must do better.
Rosie -- the Landkey one looks like a possibility for the family concerned.

FYI - very few Devon burials are included in the National Burial Index. I think you'll find that Mary's burial was written as Mary COURTICE in 1869 - address given as Venn, which is the same address as the 1861 census.

Well spotted, I think you are right ;D

Also at Landkey
William Curtis age 90 buried 18 July 1896 - abode Newport

Rosie99 - I think you'll find the burial was in 1869 not 1867. (Aged 57 years)
