Interesting to see the wooden houses with tall chimneys in Yarraville back in those days. ( If you hadn't said a year, I would have guessed early 50s. The area is very dofferent these days!. ;))
Also to see the footy ground marked out for Athletics. Most aths meetings were held in August September back then I think. Seem to remember - maybe just after footy season finished! :D

Good observation Wiggy..might well have been a cold September day...Rob

On closer inspection, I think a couple of the tall 'chimneys' might belong to the old Newport power station . . . . and some of the 'chimneys are telephone poles! ;D ;D
I am not as straight a 'line marker ' as the pros!! ;) And I now see I have missed a bit on his coat. - concentrate on the face! ;)

Quick question Rob. Is that a beard or just some under exposure. When I zoom in it looks a lot like some under exposure at that location, but remembering back to 1960 (yes I do remember that year quite well :)) there were some beards on young guys like this. I'll concentrate on all the other areas first.

I wondered if it might be shadow cast by turned up collar or scarf - only on one side of his jaw. :-\ :-\

Yes it is. I enlarged it and lightened it and the collar is quite clear. I think the dark areas are something to do with either the original photo or the scan.

Hi & thanks to all contributors...I acknowledge all the work carried out on this photo..the resultant image is much improved compared to the original version. My father (Gordon Bell) would have been suitably impressed too! Cheers, Rob
