Title: William BOUCHER 1825-1888.
Post by: gracol on Thursday 07 February 19 21:01 GMT (UK)
Would like to discover more about him and his wife ANN,who he was married to before marrying my 2nd great grandmother Caroline Spencer in 1881.
From censuses William was born about 1825 in Sneinton or Nottingham,Ann around the same time in Radcliffe.
In 1851 he stole flour from his employer in Nottingham ,and served a year in gaol the report mentioning a wife and two children,which is borne out by the 1851 census.
I cannot find Williams birth/baptism record ?

I cannot find William in the 1841 census ?
In 1861 he was in lodgings in Manchester,but I cannot find his wife Ann anywhere ?
In 1871 William & Ann were in Sneinton.
I cannot find William and Anns marriage record which I think was probably around 1847 ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just throwing this one in the mix!

1841

Street   Corn Mill
Parish   Radford
City
County   Nottinghamshire
Country   England
House Number
House Name
Registration District   Radford
Town
Record set   1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census
Collections from   Great Britain, England
Person 1
First Name   William
Last Name   Bowcher
Birth Year   1823

Birth County   Nottinghamshire
Gender   Male
Occupation
Archive Reference   HO107

The writing is not great, so could be Boucher misspelled.
In street named Corn Mill, which would fit a budding Baker!
In Radford where he was in 1957.

I've no idea if this is the right man.

Hopefully NG will find the record. The Marriage is on FreeREG but no Fathers or witnesses named.

There is also this;
Baptism;
01 Apr 1855, St Stephen, Sneinton
LOUISA , Daug of SAMUEL/ANN Boucher
Abode Henry St
Father a Baker

Birth Reg GRO;
BOUCHER, LOUISA, Mothers mn STOKES***
GRO Reference: 1855  M Quarter in RADFORD  Volume 07B  Page 178

So either his name has been mistranscribed or he may be a Samuel William Boucher.

I can find 1 William but 1818 to WILLIAM/ANN, Father a Framework Knitter.

Louisas Death was Reg 1856 age 1

Thanks so much for your replies and  further information,and,Nottsgirl 1 for the Archive record.
Giggsycat,I cannot find the 1841 census record you detail on Ancestry or FamilySearch,wondered if you could let me know the other occupants he was with.You gave me archive refs etc but I don't know how you find them without going through the whole of the Radford census !
Strange why he was in Manchester in 1861 without his wife?
Thanks again,
Colin

Its strange that his Father is a Gardener on M/C as this appears to be his ParentsSister in 1841 in Sneinton;
Richard Boucher, 52, FWK
Elizabeth Boucher, 52
Louisa Boucher, 15
Only Louisa is born in the County

As NG said on Williams Bapt Richard was a FWK

1851 mistranscribed;
Richard Boacher, 62, FWK, born Towcester, Northamptonshire
Elizabeth Boacher, 63, born Greens Norton Nr Towcester

.

Not strange really as may have done some gardening in between FWK jobs. I have come across this a few time.

Hi gracol,

Re my Parents/Sister comment on the 1841 Census.

NG gave you this;
Christening of William** was at St Stephen's Sneinton on 7 Mar 1824 son of Richard a FWK and Elizabeth.
Siblings were Harriott Boucher*** at St Mary's Nottingham Christened 11 Nov 1821 abode Carter Street
Louisa**** at Stephens Snienton 10 Dec 1826 .

So the 1841 Louisa, Williams Sister is still at home with their Parents and unmarried.

It appears she died young;

BOUCHER, LOUISA age 16*****

Thanks for the two further replies.
Trish-fully understood your original comment,don't know why but ParentsSister I thought was a reference to something else,had a bit of a lapse!
Thanks again
