Can anyone please help me with any information this picture gives them?
I found this photo in my great grandmother's photo album with no caption. I'm hoping we may be able to narrow down who it may be by getting someones help with uniform id etc.

He is in the Canadian army. Canadian records are relatively easy to find, almost all are digitised. Do you have his name? If you do, go to :
http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/first-world-war/personnel-records/Pages/search.aspx don't worry about the number.
If the search brings a result, you need to scroll down the page a bit to where it says Digitised record. It takes a long time to download.

Thanks so much for that. I had no idea who it was but knowing it’s a Canadian uniform will help me narrow it down. Thanks for the link.
I think it may be William Henry Wormald but have no other photos to compare. I’m hoping his war records will match the rank of the man in the photo which will help.

Seems to be a sergeant. Unusual button or disc beside the medal ribbon?

Yes, I don't know what it was, but seen it on photographs of other Canadian soldiers. Trouble is a lot of Canadian units had that maple leaf background to their cap and collar badges. It's the centre area which shows what regiment/corps they belonged to and not usually visible in photographs.

Hopefully by now you've found Sgt William Henry Wormald, originally from Otley Leeds born 1879 died 1955 in the Canadian military archives? Had two spells first with 1st Bn Canadian Infantry, discharged unfit, rejoined and served with 168 Bn Canadian Infantry. 192 records sheets to amuse you on a rainy day.

Thanks everyone. I had a quick look at the records and I think it safe to assume it’s Sgt William Henry Wormald. My great grandmother had a few uncles fighting in the war and for 3 different countries but as far as I know William was the only Sgt. I can’t think of any other relatives or friends it could be, one of her uncles made the most sense.
It’s a hot day here in Western Australia so I will stay in the air con and have a more in depth look at the records.
