Just so we can see roughly where he was born :)
Birth June qtr 1908

Have you looked for a baptism in case a father is mentioned. What information are you after for Charlotte.

mainly to find who she was with when sidney was born.not certain if she was married before but she later married in 1918 a year before her death. i do wonder how she died.
-
So she married Arthur J Scarfe, Sep qtr 1918 Newton Abbot - is that right?
-
Death as Charlotte Annie Scarfe aged 31, Jun qtr 1919 Plymouth?
-
You could find out how she died by obtaining her death certificate (or pdf, currently £6 from GRO Online).
-
thats correct avm , not sure how she died
-
Unless she died in an accident and it was recorded in the local paper then I would think the only way to find cause of death is by purchasing her death certificate. Sidney's birth certificate should state whether she has more than one surname

Sydney Caleb Manning was baptised at Landscove on 19 July 1908, son of Charlotte Anne Manning, of Gullaford.

so, talking to someone on chat yesterday they managed to find out that charlotte annie had 2 other children , frederick william and Gilbert charles , but i cannot find this information myself anywhere they said frederick was 1908-1963 (i did find a frederick 1912 from totnes ) and as from gilbert ??? they said 1912 to 2004 anyone got access to any premium sites to check this out ?

There is a Frederick who could be a candidate:-
MANNING, FREDERICK WILLIAM -
GRO Reference: 1912 S Quarter in TOTNES Volume 05B Page 277
No mother's maiden name which usually indicates an illegitimate child.
The person who told you may have got the dates wrong.
Added: On Freebmd mother's maiden name is given as Manning
-
There is a Gilbert in 1917
Births Mar 1917
Manning Gilbert C Manning Newton A. 5b 160
GRO's version
MANNING, GILBERT CHARLES -
GRO Reference: 1917 M Quarter in NEWTON ABBOT Volume 05B Page 160
-
There is an online tree (Ancestry) which shows Sydney, Frederick & Gilbert
-
thanks girlguide, thats the FW manning that looks like it fits. as no frederick was mentioned on the 1911 cencus with the family. so 1912 works. apparantley sydney and frederick was raised by the grandmother mary .
still searching for more on Gilbert charles who was later raised by a stepdad so was told
-
wow where is this tree rosie ?
-
There is a death for a Gilbert Charles Manning in 1998 in the Hillingdon district of Middlesex. Birth date given as 3rd March 1917 which would fit the birth that I found.
-
There is an online tree (Ancestry) which shows Sydney, Frederick & Gilbert
-
There is a likely looking marriage for Gilbert in 1949 to an Irene Massey:-
Marriages Dec 1949
Manning Gilbert C Massey Uxbridge 5f 376
Massey Irene D Manning Uxbridge 5f 376
Looks like there may be two children from that marriage. Won't give the names as they are likely to be still alive.
