I have been studying the will of Thomas Leacock who died May 10, 1855 in Cloney. It seems he did not marry as he bequeathed his assets to his siblings. I do not know the age of Thomas and I do not know his parents' names. I would really like some help with this family. Thomas wants to be buried in the churchyard at Kilcronaghan.
Thomas mentions sisters Anne and Margaret to whom he bequeaths land, mentioning Robert McDowells' meadow and his own meadow. Thomas' brother William is to get some land in Cloney. Thomas has a brother John. Also a sister Sarah McIlroy in America but not sure where. He has a brother Henry in Draperstown.
Can anyone help with this family? Even the age of Thomas at his death would help. I have searched for Sarah in America trying to find her husband's first name, and maybe finding the name of her father when she married.
Thanks ever so much.

Just looking at some of the Leacock oldies in 1901 census shows a Henry in Draperstown aged 69. John in Bancran L'derry aged 65 and a William aged 70 in Desertmartin. May not be possibles unless he was the very young oldest of a family who lost their father early on ie earliest birth could be 1831. Thomas perhaps older and inheriting could be in his lates 20s?
In the 1831 census for Londonderry there quite a few (well 42) Leacocks that you could look at.

Also check for Laycock as spelling
Just a thought sometimes the bequests are in birth order, or all the girls together getting money and the boys listed together getting land

Thank you shanreagh. Good idea to look at some of the elder Leacocks in 1901 and to look at 1831. I would like to find Sarah’s marriage.
Are Cloney and Luney different places?

There are Letters of Administration for a Henry Leacock of Draperstown in 1884, daughter Margaret to administer. Too bad those papers are not available. Probably very enlightening.
Then Margaret died 1920 and I have her will. Maybe I can work backwards or sideways or something.

thanks Hallmark. So Henry who died in 1884 had son William as well as daughter Margaret. I have just ordered the will for William Leacock who died 1911 in Clooney. I am thinking this William is not the right age to be Thomas' brother William as the William who died in 1911 was age 64 so born 1847. I cannot read the surname of the person who was present at death.

That is very interesting, Sinann. So Henry's wife was Elizabeth and he had a daughter Jane. Also, Margaret who was granted permission to handle the estate. And William who was present at death.
thank you so very much.
I just looked up Jane's death and she was a spinster, age 40, and brother Thomas was present at death. Building up the tree.

I think that I have found the right Henry's birth which was about 1808 in Kilcronaghan Parish. found a Henry baptised Jan 29, 1807 in Kilcronaghan Parish. His parents were Henry Leacock and Jane Stuart. I think Henry may have married Elizabeth Young abt. 1842ish (wife was Elizabeth and possibly surname was Young) and we know he had children Margaret, Jane, Thomas,William and Elizabeth. We know of child Elizabeth from Margaret's will of 1920. Daughter Elizabeth married John Coulter mar 7, 1872 in Draperstown. They had a daughter Mary Young Coulter which re-enforces belief that Henry married Elizabeth Young. I didn't find Mary's dob on irishgenealogy. Not sure why - abt 1884.

Very good. When I don't find the baptism under the expected name, I usually check the unnamed baptisms. I guess I slipped up this time. Thank you

When I read Henry Leacock's daughter Margaret Leacock's will written in 1916 even though Margaret died in 1920, basically she names as beneficiaries all the sons and daughters of her sister Elizabeth Coulter and specifies that they are nieces and nephews. But I can't figure out Bella Leacock Clarke of Tobermore's relationship and the relationship is not specified. Elizabeth did have another daughter Jane Helena Patterson Coulter born 1873 who is not mentioned in the will - perhaps she married a Clark/Clarke. But why wouldn't she be specified as a niece if so. And shouldn't it be Jane Clarke? So likely not a niece. Any thoughts?

I found an Isabella Leacock, born Tobermore, in 1875 to Hugh Leacock and Mary Fields. However, Isabella married Robert Laverty in 1902. Wonder if she remarried. And what was the relationship to Margaret Leacock, daughter of Henry. Hugh's father was Samuel but I don't have mother as yet.
