Title: Mary Smith Medbourne look up request please
Post by: jadzia on Sunday 17 February 19 08:10 GMT (UK)
Hi there,

I'm trying to find any information on Mary Smith. I do not know anything about her except from her marriage record which mentions Medbourne Leicestershire.

Samuel Barratt of Manton, in the county of Rutland and Mary Smith of Medbourne, in the county of Leicestershire were married April 18 1704. They were married in Harrington, Northamptonshire, England.

I am wondering if someone could do a look up in Medbourne for me please to see if Mary was baptised there, and if so  what date and who were her parents?

Thank you

Two possibles at Medbourne:

19 September 1689 - Mary, daughter of William Smith, Labourer
6 January 1670 - Mary, daughter of Thomas Smith.

Thank you for your help

I would think the 1689 one would be more likely as the other one would be in her thirties when they got married and started their family. The name William does run in the family too. I'm not sure how I can confirm which one for definite though.

Thanks again  :)

There is a marriage in Medbourne for a Mary Smith to William Wingfall 13 Sep 1722 which gives Marys age as 34 (bn c1688)

There is a burial in Uppingham on 19th May 1750 of a Mary Barret age 79, which fits with the the Mary Smith of 1670.

Thank you very much for your help.

From what rosie99 found it makes the 1670 baptism more likely to be mine and rules out the 1689 one.

Great find with the burial David....I'll look into it.

Thank you again  :)
