Title: Frank E. Ware - obituary 1912, Alameda County, California
Post by: Erato on Monday 18 February 19 00:28 GMT (UK)
I am looking for a report of the death or an obituary of Frank E. Ware who died on 22 September 1912 in Alameda County, California.   I suspect this was a suicide because his infant daughter had died in July 1911 closely followed by the deaths of his wife and two young sons by carbon monoxide poisoning in November 1911.

I have the death announcements for Frank, his wife Lillian, and all of his children and also a detailed newspaper report of the carbon monoxide incident [from the San Francisco Call].  I just need an obituary or other account of Frank's death.

Frank Ware Succumbs
To Dread Meningitis

__________

Death of Civil Engineer Wipes Out ill-Fated Family of Which He Was Head.
___________

Frank E. Ware, civil engineer and capitalist, who was in London last November when his wife and two children were asphyxiated by gas in their home at 1686 Page street, died yesterday following an operation for meningitis at the East Bay Sanatorium, Oakland.

The death of Ware, who was well known in the bay region, wiped out the family of which he was the head. When he received word of the death of his wife and two children last November. Ware was too ill to leave London, where he went to interest English capitalists in a California water project. He returned last May. The death of his wife and children attracted much attention at the time, because of a story told by Mrs. Margaret Besley, 1022 Jones street, a sister of the dead woman, that she had seen a mysterious light shining through her dining-room window the day preceding the tragedy. She said she saw a similar light Just before receiving word of the death of her father, a year earlier.

Thanks, RJ.  The "mysterious light" was mentioned in the SF Call article.  Whatever.  It was definitely an ill-fated family.

As a side note/question, I've never seen the word "capitalist " used in a context like that. Investor?
