Title: Kenneth Martin image.
Post by: doddsie4 on Tuesday 26 February 19 20:09 GMT (UK)
I just wondered if it might be possible to improve this terribly worn out photo of my father, Kenny Martin, in the cockpit of a plane.       He was in the RAF from 1936 to 1946.       Perhaps it could be cropped at the bottom up to where that shadow begins......

Trish,
That's very nice.       The photo was in a terrible mess.       Thank you so much!       Very grateful!

Like that one too.       Softer tones.       Excellent!

The type of aircraft in the photo looks like a Hawker Hind.

I think the date may be anywhere between 1936 and 1939.      At the beginning of the war, he was sent to RAF Montrose, then to Wick, Weston Super Mare, Hook, and Belgium, where he was almost killed.     He was Ground Crew, repairing planes, but he was often bombed when living in digs next to dromes, so he saw plenty of action.       I believe Abbotsinch received "batches" of planes when he was stationed there, before the war.       His brother Morris Martin flew as a Navigator & Gunner in Lancasters over Germany.      Morris was based in England of course.

..... I just looked at my father's memoirs and he mentions that there were Hawker Harts at Abbotsinch when he was there.       They must have looked pretty much like Hawker Hinds, I imagine.

Carol,
That's the best.      Softer overall picture but sharper outlines of everything.      Just right - thank you,

                                                                                                                 Brian

My pleasure...it's so worth preserving.
