Title: Louisa Kernen
Post by: suzie9 on Monday 04 March 19 11:45 GMT (UK)
Am trying to find where in Ireland Louisa Kernen was born and the rest of her family.

I know she married George Cadle in Liverpool in 1875.  The certificate states that her father John was deceased and he was a grocer by trade.  The marriage was witnessed by a Robert Kernen - maybe brother.

However, I cannot find who her mother was or where they came from in Ireland or what year they came over to Liverpool.

Any help or ideas of how to solve this greatly appreciated.  Many thanks

There is a John Kernan grocer (aged 80) died in 1873 at 88 Camden St, Dublin. Listed as a widower.
There is an Elizabeth Kernan dead, also in Dublin South, 1871 death which it might be worth ordering the cert for.

Elizabeth Kernan
Group Registration ID   N/R
SR District/Reg Area   Dublin South
Deceased Age at Death   56
Returns Year   1871
Returns Quarter   4
Returns Volume No   17
Returns Page No   511

If you think that John might be 'yours', they were a well known family.

This may be a complete red herring but...

There are two baptisms in Aghada in Co. Cork in May 1863

and on the 25th Louisa d/o  John KERNAN and Georgina SMITH

There is also a William baptised aged about 12 in 1855

There is this entry in 1881 although the age of Robert does not fit with the age of the Robert who married Elizabeth Wynn. He is with a brother John and family.

There are birth records which show that John Kernen’s wife could be Kate Burke.

The baptism of Catherine Kernan 1874 shows Robert Kernan as her Godfather.

This could be Robert’s wife Elizabeth in 1911 with a son Robert

Whilst there is a married Robert born abt 1854 in the Workhouse

Birthplace shown as Queenstown, Cork.

These might have nothing to do with your Louisa but I thought you might want to consider them.

In 1891 2971/108

John F Kernan and Kate also have a sister Georgina Potter b Ireland with them and her children.
Child George shows mmn  Cearns

1911 shows John F Kernan b Whitegate, Cork as inmate.
