 Hi,
    John Johnston b 1838 Scaleby.
  On the 1861C his wife Elizabeth and Dau Mary Ann are living with G-Parents Moffat at Newtown of Rockcliffe,no John.
  I have tried and tried but no success.
    1861 Census RG9- piece3912-folio71-page 10 Low Longtown
      Hanks 10ken.

On the 1861 census Elizabeth is down as Johnson
Found a marriage Sep 1860 Longtown

Elizabeth Moffat married George Johnson

and daughter Mary Ann on Freebdm is also under Johnson

So not sure where John Johnston comes in?

Was Elizabeth recorded as married or widowed in 1861?

What was his occ. on marriage & birth of Mary Ann as he may have been at sea?
