I have the surname Jayes in my tree (or Jays, Jeayes, Jeys, Jeyes); the family were in Enderby, Leicestershire, since at least the 1700s. But they’ve not been easy to disentangle and I’ve always had some doubts about my research.
My 2 gt grannie was Sarah Ann Jayes, born Oct 1846 in St Margaret, Leicester, father John Jays, a frame work knitter, mother Elizabeth nee Langton. Her parents married the year before and John was a widower - I think he was in Leicester in 1841 with his first wife, Sarah, and 3 children - Eliza, Thomas and William, none of whom stayed with John when he remarried. Sarah Ann was with both parents and no other children in 1851 (mistranscribed on Ancestry as Jons). Elizabeth then died and Sarah is alone with her father in 1861.
Johns pob is uncertain but I felt he was most likely b Enderby 1802, the son of Elizabeth Tebbutt and John Jayes. There are other possibles which I painstakingly ruled out.
Ancestry has matched me at Elizabeth Tebbutt level to someone whose ancestor was Ann Jays, b Enderby 1833. This Ann seems to be the daughter of John and Hannah, and married James Howkins in Leic in 1864. Her parents are in the censuses and it’s clearly not the same family as my Sarah Ann and her father. They can’t be the same John. So how do we get matched at Johns mothers level?
I feel totally tangled with this, can anyone help me make sense of it? I’ve got more Jayes info but didn’t want to swamp the thread, but if any more info will help, please ask and I’ll see what I’ve got!

Only from my experience but there appears to be a dna link somewhere but Ancestry simply use the connection that the other person has in their tree which may not actually be correct or indeed takes info from other trees both public and privately searchable which have the same person as this connecting person has to fill in gaps.
What I am trying to say is that there is probably a dna connection but the line of genetic descent that they show is only as good as the other person has in their tree and we all know how bad some of them are.
You should be able to see the other persons tree and check their line of descent and you may find something doing that.

Thrulines are a mixed blessing.
Some suggestions appear to be very good, the link can be followed through easily. In other cases it is just like Ancestry tree hints - not good at all.
You obviously have a connection to this match through DNA, and it is possibly through the Jayes family, but not definitely, and not necessarily in the way that Ancestry has suggested.
I have a well documented tree attached to my DNA, yet some of the Thrulines suggestions are for completely different people entirely, who Ancestry thinks might be my ancestors.
Like all tree hints, potential ancestor hints and whatever else at Ancestry, you have to evaluate each one on it's own merits.
