Hello!
Sarah Potter b. 1817 married Isaac Ryther in Liverpool 1844.
In 1851 Isaac and Sarah are living in Toxteth Park where Isaac has a step daughter named Mary Buckley who was born 1842 in Garston.
Sarah wasn't married before so i am guessing Mary is her illegitimate child but Mary was born and baptised Mary Potter so do you think maybe they knew the father (Mr Buckley) but he maybe wasn't prepared to accept his daughter? or was already married so she legally was named Potter?
What would your thoughts be on this?

Any birth registration for Mary on freebmd? Any father shown on the birthcert?

and could anyone help me find out what happened to her?
I have her in 1851 (as above) and in Warrington, Lancashire in 1861 working as a Domestic Servant.

Sarah BUCKLEY married Isaac Rither in 1844 - not Sarah Potter
www.lancashirebmd.org.uk shows previous surname Potter so Sarah much have married before 1844

Ive just seen that! Im so confused?! ??? ??? I wonder where on gods green earth i had Potter from? I swore i found a marriage for Isaac and Sarah Potter?? and their children's mothers maiden name is listed as Potter? Unless she did marry before hand? More digging to be done!

Mary Potter Buckley married George Crampton 17 Aug 1864 St Nicholas Church, Liverpool. Her father named as Mark Buckley, Gardener - his as Reuben Crampton. George Crampton also a gardener.
They appear to have had a daughter called Annie born 7 Sept 1866. Thus far I cannot see this family in a census.

You may have noticed an asterisk beside Sarah's surname on index. There is a note about * below the results.
When you find the correct marriage click reference number to save it to your records page Then click "View Page" next to it on your records page. This takes you to a transcription of the register page which has that marriage. There you'll see 4 entries for the marriage of Isaac and Sarah, instead of the usual 2, all with same reference number.

Thank you everyone!
Looking at the the Buckley / Potter marriage in QTR 2 and Mary Potter's birth in QTR 2 it looks like Sarah Potter had an illegitimate child who took her first husbands name to seem legitimate.
