I'd really appreciate a lookup at Lewisham Local History Centre for a burial at Deptford St.Paul's. I have found evidence of his death from a pension claim, I can't locate a certificate but this was the local Church the family used.
William Woodhead
Died 28th April 1854
Of Old King St. Deptford
Around the same time his daughter disappears, Mary Robinson between 1854-1858 but again no death certificate. She was also of Old King Street, Deptford.
Would be really grateful if anyone going there might look them up as I cant visit and they have not been scanned or indexed from what I can see.
Thank you in anticipation :)

As you have the date of death for William have you tried contacting them
Where are Mary Robinsons husband and children living in 1861
I can see them in 1851 HO107/1585 f139 p42
-
Hi yeah I tried contacting them but was told they do not offer a research service unfortunately.
In 1861 & 1871 the Robinson children are living with an aunts and Uncles called Burke & Woodhead in Deptford.
Mary & William had a child in May 1854 , Mary gave the information but then I lose her. I've checked the burials on Deceasedonline for Brockley where the Deptford burials and other family all took place but can't find anything. I believe I have traced William's death to 1873 where he died in Rotherhithe from a drunken fit and a burial entry at Brockley on deseacedonline shows he was of Old King St Deptford which all fits. So at the moment I'm assuming Mary dies 1854-1858 when the new burials began as I cant trace her on any census.
Regards
Kieran

Have you found William Robinson in 1861 /1871. If so does it state whether he is married or widowed. If for any reason Mary is in an institution she may be listed under her initials.
Possible death -she was 37 in 1851
ROBINSON, MARY ELIZABETH age 40

I have who I think is the right William Robinson in 1871 living in Rotherhithe as a lodger born Deptford and a widow which fits.
The strange thing about that Mary Elizabeth Robinson entry is she was baptised Mary Woodhead and any entry for her I find in baptisms etc is for Mary Robinson yet on her last child birth certificate in 1854 she calls herself Mary Elizabeth Robinson. However she registered the birth so cant have died the year before? ???

News article about Thomas Robinson of Old King Street Deptford in 1859. The lad was in trouble, court testimony by his uncle.
Kentish Independent, 13 August 1859
page 5
-
Yes that's my ancestor, might have gone off the rails with no parents around perhaps.
-
I've only got the transcript at the moment - which is full of gobbledygook - but uncle is James Bourke, and it says (from his testimony) appears the boy had lived with him for several years. Thomas about twelve years old?
-
Yes that's the one, that's his uncle. I've got a clip of the article. He apparently conducted himself well over the several years he had lived with his uncle until recently when he came home with new belongings and admitted to stealing money.
-
Well, it ties in with your estimates of when Mary might have died. Problem is finding it!
-
I'm almost tempted to order the 1853 death cert of Mary Elizabeth Robinson just to check as the age matches but logic tells me it can't be her if she gave birth in May of 1854..... ???
-
I would not order that certificate in a hurry. I had not noticed when I posted the information about the other child in 1854. Sorry.
-
Well the plot thickens....... I decided to order the death certificate in 1853 and guess what.....its the right one for my Mary Robinson. She died 20th Jan 1853 at 5 King Street, Deptford aged 40 the wife of William Henry Robinson a costermonger from Typhus for 2 weeks. Everything matches what I know and the informant was Mary Elizabeth Robinson who I presume is their daughter who I have only seen recorded as Mary Ann before and just Mary afterwards.
So the question now is how do William & Mary go on to register the birth and baptism of another child in 1854, more than a year after she died!?! ???
Do you think it's one big cover up by their daughter who is now calling herself Mary Elizabeth Robinson?
Mary Ann Robinson, the daughter, went onto marry a William Podbury in 1861 and in the 1871 census has a son recorded as living with her called Robert George Podbury born c.1856 and I'm now wondering if he's actually the Robert George Robinson born in 1854 supposedly to William & Mary Robinson.....

It sounds like it might be. They can be very naughty sometimes. There's no Robert George Podbury on FreeBMD.
Extraordinary that Rosie found the correct death certificate of someone that we all thought was alive a year later ;D

It was a fluke John ;D

I think you are right and that R G Podbury is aka R G Robinson.
-
Well it's great to finally solve that mystery after several years ;D
