Title: England to New Zealand Voyage in 1883
Post by: toby webb on Tuesday 12 March 19 21:14 GMT (UK)
From a N.Z. newspaper I learnt that Samuel Foss , who had been recruited in England as a manager at the Tarataki Dairy Company, arrived on 16 August 1883 in New Zealand. However the most likely ships to have been used by him i.e. S.S. Wairoa & S.S. Wave Queen arrived in Wellington after that date. Can anyone advise how I might find out which ship he sailed on and which were the ports involved. Thanks, Toby?

Have you seen this post back from 2010, Toby, researching the same person?

It sounds quite convoluted!

Hi Toby,

Did Samuel arrive in New Zealand on August 16th, or at the Dairy Company on that date?

Getting down to look at the other helpful leads.
Meanwhile Minniehaha. It is confusing especially as the report states  !6 inst in a paper dated  3 September. I have assumed 16 ult, perhaps wrongly. T

Thanks to you too goldie61. These were new sites for me. I have added to the
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=502894.9    and posted it,
but since it is 'Completed', I am not sure if anyone gets to see it. Hope it might give new life to the discussion.
I have been in touch with Ms. Pentony Graham who has been most helpful.

Hi Toby,

There may be some information to be found here. Could be worth making enquiries?

Apart from anything else there is a photograph of Samuel Foss (senior) & other family members.

Excellent minniehaha. Something nice in such a terrible world. So sorry.
Another piece of the jig-saw. In addition, I am now a member of the Masterton Library, but unlikely to be dropping in for a casual read. T.
