Hi
I'm trying to locate the marriage of John Parsons & Mary Griffin which would have taken place around 1733. A few trees on a well known site have the place as Barford, St Michaels but as far as I can see the marriages (certainly on the aforementioned site) don't start until after this date.
Does anyone know when the registers start for this parish or if they still exist for 1733ish.
Many thanks

According to the Oxfordshire FHS guide (2006), the earliest registers are missing, with marriages starting at 1755. However, the Bishops Transcripts survive for some earlier years: intermittent coverage from 1721-1763, then complete from 1765-1852.
It seems that someone must have transcribed the registers before they went missing, as the guide mentions a transcript with baptisms from 1648, marriages from 1721 (plus 1718), and burials from 1678.
This was said to be available at various libraries etc, and to buy from OFHS. I don't know about current availability, or whether this or any of the BT images are online.

Thanks for the info ArthurK
If anyone has access to the Bishop's Transcripts I would be very grateful for any information contained within them.

I've now found the BTs at FamilySearch - they start at image 85 at the following link:

There are quite a few years missing in the 1730's, and in a quick look I didn't see your couple. If you look a bit more thoroughly and/or widely you might be able to spot something.

Thanks again I couldn't find these records on Familysearch when I looked.
Well that has thrown up a mystery - although the page for Barford St Michaels is missing for 1733 I found a page for Gt Barton als Steeple Barton for 1732 which has the marriage of John Parsons to Ann Wells (not my Mary!)
I shall have to delve further.

Barford St Michael and Steeple Barton are about 5 miles apart, and John Parsons may not be such an uncommon name. I should tread carefully....

John Parsons who married Ann Wells is definitely not my John Parsons so I have ruled him out as he & Ann were having children at the same date as my John & Mary. I'm sure they are related though but that is for another day!
