4 weeks and still waiting for a Marriage cert..
I have forgotten who it was for now ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D
xin
-
Up until a few days ago there was a notification saying they were overloaded with applications. Probably because of people getting their orders in due to their increase in price.
Today there is this service announcement
"Applications for certificates without an index reference may currently take longer to despatch.
For more information regarding index references please see our ‘Most Customers Want to Know’ page"
Waiting for a certificate is like waiting for Christmas when you were a child. :)

I ordered a marriage certificate and was given a delivery date. Two weeks after it was due I rand them to be told that they were uanble to give a delivery date. It has just arrived over 4 weeks after the predicted delivery date. Not very impressed especially as it cost me £14!!!

You should be able to see the details in your account on the GRO website and see if they have sent it. I waited for over 2 weeks after the estimated despatch dates for certificates without references, maybe marriages are also taking a while as they have to be paper copies and not PDF's

I just know I will forget.... so created a big stiky note right in my eyeline on pc.. ha ha..

Oh dear:
Am expecting a Birth Certificate to be posted out April 1. Ordered it 26 March. We will see. Learning patience. Normally can work out children from census or other means. This child lived 13 days in December Qtr 1903 and have her burial record from Durham Records Online. Buried in Tanfield Parish Church Cemetery, County Durham but possibly a Methodist which would mean no baptism at the Parish Church.
No parents given in her death entry. Alice Hilda Burridge, residence for her short life, Causey Row.

In defence of the GRO....
I asked for a birth cert at almost midnight on Thursday 7th March, and it was ready by 10:15 on Wednesday 13th March.
By my reckoning, Friday to Wednesday, discounting the w/e, was well within the 4 day window, and I was very pleased with the service, but if you have been waiting 4 weeks Xinia, perhaps they need a nudge to enquire how their backlog is looking?

Certainly if you are happy with a PDF which you can print, it will be noticeably quicker than a paper cert, even without the additional delay in transit. My recent PDFs are turned round inside a week.

But PDFs are only available for Births and Deaths? NOT Marriages ;D
Xin has ordered a Marriage Cert.

Sorry KG I was not clear I meant order details and whether it had been despatched. It seems to be the paper copies that are taking the time. I had ordered fairly recent death certificates at the beginning of February where I could not get the reference numbers and was given despatch date 21st Feb ( 3 weeks) they were not despatched until 7th March

You are all forgetting this is me Xin
I need to know immediately --- :) as in Scots people now.. is the query -- now.. is the answer - whoops spent £40 on credits.. ha ha
oh dear.. so impatient

James Voysey Burridge married Annie Knight 7 July 1903, Lamesley, County Durham. It is looking like this couple ARE the parents of Alice Hilda Burridge. Hopefully by the time I get the Certificate of Alice's Birth I will have resolved her parentage. Both parents are on the 1939 Register so can now get their birthdates too.
-
The certificate arrived this morning... :)
additional information I had hoped for :( nil..
so still stuck on this one..
never mind..
xin
-
Sorry to hear you are still stuck Xinia. I presume you have already posted the query on rootschat :)
-
Yes it is an oldie.. I am attempting to clear up..
as I think she was a bit of a tale teller. :)
attempting to find actual facts for her.
seems impossible..
xin
Her name was Christiannah Abel when she married Thomas Argyle but she was supposed to be the Widow of Thomas Abel .. and I have her as maiden name 'James' from Cornwall. bn 1824.. her father was ? reportedly a soldier Nicholas James (Tyack) so yes I am sure it has all been covered .. on here.. I was just hoping the Cert would produce that snippet.. never mind.. x

It is always worth a try ;D

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I have birth certificates for 100s of my ancestors and of the ones who are on the 1939 Register I calculate that at least 50% gave the wrong date of birth. No idea why, did they not know if they were quite elderly by then, or trying to tell their partners they were older or younger than they were. Who knows what is in people's minds when they fill in the forms.

Alice Hilda Burridge was the daughter of James Voysey Burridge and Annie Knight. Her burial was on
23 November 1903 age 17 days, Tanfield, her birth certificate was issued on the same day as her burial and working out the days she died on 22 November 1903. Birth 5 November 1903. Her Birth Certificate arrived from Southport in exactly 3 weeks which is the usual for USA. No delay.
