Hello,
can anybody help me date this photo of the Duke of Wellington pub in Ryarsh village? maybe from the clothes that the children are wearing or the bike that the guy is sitting on?
thanks
Shaun

The name 'Hanbury' on the signboard might be for Truman Hanbury Buxton of Brick Lane, London E1, merged into Grand Metropolitan in 1971. Can you make anything out behind the tree?
At a guess, pre-1914.
-
Now I have found where Ryarsh is, I can offer 'Jude, Hanbury, Kent Brewery', of Wateringbury. Moved to Canterbury in 1924 and Kent Brewery sold. Later into Whitbread.
It must be 'Jude' behind the trees.
-
So this photo was taken before 1924?
-
Its interesting that it was only called the Wellington Inn in this photo. I wonder when its name officially changed to The Duke of wellington
-
Yes, I should think pre-1924 unless the comany was tardy in changing boards.
Can't help with the pub's name. Local directories might help.

There's another old photo of the pub on this site, not sure whether that helps :)

Judging by the motorcycle, I would put it either side of WW1, probably before, based on the children's clothing.

The motorcycle appears not to have any number plates which would suggest pre 1904 when registration became compulsory.
