Title: Dora Schaffer
Post by: Ligularium on Thursday 02 May 19 11:17 BST (UK)
Hi
I'm trying to find information about Austrian-born Dora Schaffer whose maiden name may have been Sattler.
I've found that she lived in Graz in Austria, owned a property there but may have escaped the Nazi occupation in or around 1940.
I did come across a Dora Schaffer in New York in the US Census of 1940 but can't be sure if this is the same person.
I'm not sure where to go from here.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Ligularium  :)

What is your interest in her?  Is she part of your FH?

I am researching a property in Austria which was registered in her name in the 1940s.

Hi,

(Edited)

I have now removed the publicly-available (I found it via G**gle) link to the local newspaper in Austria in which a person with the same name as the lady being researched was mentioned due to her 80th birthday.

I copied the link here as I thought the Brithday Girl might possibly be a relative.

We are aware that it cannot be the same person but to avoid aggravation in connection with the RC "no living persons" ruling, I have now removed the link. I have sent Ligularium a copy of the link via PM, just in case.

Maybe they are related..?

Best regards,
Karen

Hello Karen
She may be a relation. I will try to make contact with the publisher. Thank you very much for finding this. Much appreciated.

That sounds like she could still be alive in which case her details should not be published here.  Rootschat has a no living persons policy

Hello CaroleW, I understand what you mean, but I shouldn't imagine for one minute the Dora who was 80 years old two years ago and is mentioned in the magazine, is the one I'm looking for; she would have been born in 1937. She would have been far too young to own a property in the 1940s. :)

Hi

Go to herold.at and type Dora Schaffer. You will get a phone number in Bad Mitterndorf.

Regards Peonie

Doesn’t matter whether or not she is the Dora you are looking for.  The rules re not posting info about living persons still apply

CaroleW, I don't want to do anything against the RootsChat rules. Should I therefore delete this post?

Thanks Peonie. I think, as CaroleW has pointed out, it's against the RootsChat rules to involve a living person. So I'll continue looking at old records to find details about Dora. :)

Hi Ligularium,

I have deleted the newspaper link from my earlier post and sent it to you via PM, just in case you hadn't copied it.

If you do contact the newspaper, I'd love to know if there is a connection.  :) Please feel free to let me know via Personal Message.  ;D

Good luck!
Karen

P.S.
Let me know if you need any help with German.
