Hello
I am trying to find out a little more information about my great Grandfather's (George Evans) Bakery - Katesgrove Bakery (Orchard Street / Mundesley Street in Reading. He was still there Oct 1902 as I have located an advertisement he placed for a vacancy. But by 1911 he had moved to Addison Road, Reading.
Trying to find when he left there and move to Addison Road. Is there somewhere i can look - directory of trades or land registry etc.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
Mark

If you are local to Reading - a trip to Reading Library to look through their Kellys directories will give you the answer.

Hi HarryW
Regrettably I don't live in Reading, I'm based in the Midlands now.
Is the directory online?
Many thanks

There seem to be some on Ancestry, but a quick look suggests there are none for Reading. You could always enquire of Reading Library whether they have a search service.

From the Public Members Tree on Ancestry and looking at the 1911 census - there seems quite a gap between the children of George & Alice EVANS
1911 Census
George - 40
Alice - 40 (4 children born alive, 4 living)
Sydney - 17
Winnie - 14
Connie - 2
Ernest - 1
Constance Eleanor EVANS - born 1908
Ernest Norman EVANS - born 1909
Their birth certificates should give the parents residence.

Reading Evening Post

(appears to have a photograph) and can make out....
The Evans bakery at the junction of Street and Oita Street. It was taken about 80 years ago.
Eighty years ago Ernest EVANS' father, George, baked his bread in a coke oven and sold it from his Katesgrove shop. Today his son. David... carries on....

Thanks Harry

Appreciate the links - some useful entries. Need to find the year that they left the first premises and moved to Addison Road. I trip to Reading I think.
Thanks Tony

Trying to find out who lived in Addison Road, 1901 census -
? When were Addison Road houses built
Looking at the 1901 census
Berkshire
St Mary
District 25
half way down the page is
Addison Road - (which just has a Number 7 in the building column - no houses listed)
then the next entry it
7 York Road for Albert BECKFORD and his family.
Have looked for the neighbours of George EVANS on the 1911 census - and some of them are living in the St Mary District - but not in Addison Road
