Title: Adding spouses to trees on Ancestry
Post by: Flemming on Monday 06 May 19 10:41 BST (UK)
Probably a simple question but can you add a husband to an Ancestry tree so that it gets placed to the left of the wife, i.e. denoting a previous marriage? The newly discovered spouse in question is sitting to the right of his bride which makes it look as though it was a second marriage.

Thanks, Flemming.

As far as I know, there is no way to alter the placement of spouses ::)

It's all down to Ancestry's algorithms!

Thanks !

It also depends on the number of siblings and dates of birth (ranking within the family group). Positioning also swaps depending on how much of your tree you isolate to view. Whole tree, or family group.

Well, that's where it gets complicated because it's unclear who fathered which child. Think I'll do some more digging before I attempt any amendments and hope the Family Tree Police don't get me in the meantime.

If one of the spouses isn't important/significant and perhaps there are no children from that marriage, I sometimes use the Add: Custom Event and label it First Marriage or Second Spouse or similar, whatever fits.  Then you don't need to actually add another person to your tree but they will still be in the Facts and they won't clutter up your full tree layout.  ;)

Hi tillypeg, thanks for that, good idea. I was hoping it might help with DNA Thrulines but given that doesn't work for me anyway...  ::)

I'd a feeling that both spouses would be entered, especially if there were children, and if the marriage /death dates were in? I'm sure that's how Ancestry has a couple on mine .... I'll have to log in and have a look....
