Title: Photographers, Langholm Peebles Hawick and Gala - dates of operation required
Post by: Foreversearchingforanswer on Tuesday 07 May 19 18:36 BST (UK)
Hi,

any dates for when

Simon Carruthers 30 & 32 John Street Langholm N.B. operated

and

A MacLagan Bank Street Galashiels

and

McKnaught and Son  31 High Street Peebles and Wigtown N.B.

and

Hunter  Hawick

(I am usually better than this at finding stuff)

Didn't there use to be a site that listed CDVs so you could compare the markings?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to RootsChat...there is a topic on Cartes de Visites and Cabinet Cards at the top of the board as a guide. Also you could google the names of the photographers followed by CdV reverse and you will see many images.

Hi, Fsfa.
Welcome from me, too.

This site has a good coverage of dating of cards:

 http://www.phototree.com/images/phototree_paper_photographs.pdf (http://www.phototree.com/images/phototree_paper_photographs.pdf)

And this related one has a lot of examples:

http://www.phototree.com/gallery.asp?cat=70s&f0=1870s (http://www.phototree.com/gallery.asp?cat=70s&f0=1870s)

Just be aware that they are American sites so there may be a few minor differences to British cards.

Cheers,
Peter
