Can anyone please tell me the date of this lovely old photo. It is of my grandmother in law and her daughter, my dear mother in law.

You'll notice the calf length skirt of the girl which suggests an age of around 16/17.
As for a date I would suggest around 1910.
Hope it works out.

Thank you very much, Jim1. 1910 would be the year that my mother in law was 17. So that seems to be a pretty accurate idea of the date putting those ideas together. My mother in law looks about that age doesn't she, still quite young.
It seems to be a studio portrait, these were usually special occasion photos. Wonder why that one was taken. No special occasions as I can see anywhere in the family that year.
Putting the hair up was pretty special in those days, but my mother in law is wearing a hat. So not that.
I do not have the studio name and address, my photo is a copy. Would have been taken on the Isle of Wight, I would think, that is where they were living.
Maybe it was a mother/daughter moment.

By 1910 photography had been around a long time so photos weren't always
taken just for special occasions.

I think Jim has got it spot on :D :D :D

Thank you tomkin, that confirms it definitely.
I love those old big hats, always did. When I was a teen they had become small. Look at the photos now and have a laugh, but my cousin and I thought we were the bees knees then!!
Thank you both, John-76 and Treetotal for the clean up, that was very kind, most appreciated.
You are right Jim1 perhaps it was not a special occasion. Or maybe my mother in law was just 17 and had her first nearly grown up/teen hat, a mother and daughter moment. Lovely thought.
