Help please I am stuck
Known facts:-
Charles Mason
born 4 Nov 1820 East Woodhay
1841???
1849-1853 Police Officer Southwark
1851HO107/1562 fo360 p30 with wife Ann
1853-1856 Mounted Staff Coy serving in the Crimea
1857 marriage to Harriet Strike nee Castle, St Marylebone, she was a widow he a widower
1856-1865 Policeman Kensington
1871 RG10/ 39 fo 31 p 6 with wife Harriet
With Ann he appears to have two children
Gro index shows his daughter Harriet Castle Mason has mother nee Castle
and there is a baptism for Charles John Mason in Burnham Bucks. with father Charles John a policeman and mother Ann but this is the only place where the policeman is given the second name and it is before his Met. Police records have him commencing his police career and the only Charles MASON Registration shows mother maiden name Rooke was this the son shown on the 1851 census?
Neither has a marriage for Charles Mason and Ann either Castle or Rooke been found.
Ann and Harriet Castle were sisters but did Ann marry Charles Mason and if so where and when ? Where was baby Charles registered if he isn't the son of the mother nee Rooke?

Still not finding a marriage for Ann & Charles ???
Would the 1848 birth certificate of son Charles be helpful, an address
Doubtful but would the death of Ann hold any clues, informant, address
Do you know when/where Ann died?
Was her surname registered as Mason or Castle?
Charles & Ann's daughter Harriet Castle Mason born Jun 1850
Marriage of Ann’s sister Harriet Strike/Castle to said Charles Mason Jan 1857
I'm assuming Ann died after 1850 before 1857
-
First a huge thank you for your help sorry I had to disappear for a while So young Charles was in GRO after all I'd would never had looked for a female registration. So the Charles with mother Rooke was son of a Bengamin so that clears that one up. So it definitely looks like Ann was a Castle and her place of birth and age link with Harriet's sister but where was that marriage? Finding Charles as witness to Harriet's first marriage makes the link very solid. Harriet Castle Mason was born in Bermondsey so that is where I would think Ann died and it must have been between 1851 and 1857.
George Strike died 1855 in Bermondsey so both couples have moved there. Its such a shame I can't find any of his service records other than the Military Campaign Medal and Award Rolls, 1793-1949 which does not mention his next of kin etc

I can't see an 1855 death entry in Bermondsey on FreeBMD for George Strike ??? - what was his age?
Could you give details from the Military Campaign Medal ie: name of Regt. he served with
From his marriage to Harriet Castle his father James STRIKE occ Sawyer
I wonder if this is his father on the census
1871 Fern Hill
James , Mary, William Robert NORTH

I must have been having a daft moment what I meant to write was about Charles Mason not George Strike who as you have died in 1855 in East Hamptead aged 33.
I haven't found Charles Mason's death he served in the Mounted Staff Corps in the Crimea but I can't find any useful military papers giving his next of kin and occupation when he joined up
Sorry to confuse everyone.
The information you have given about the Strike family is very useful thank you for that
"on the same 1851 census Living next door there’s are family with the
surname CASTLE John, Mster Blacksmith , Mary A, Ann g/dau 13, John 1 g/son"
This of course is Ann and Harriet's father
Harriet Castle and George Strike both witness her twin's ,(Richard) marriage in St Marylebone, just before they marry themselves, So did the whole family move to London
I have yet to identify the grand children Ann Castle 1838 and John Castle 1850 from the 1851 census Will look for them next
