Title: Charly Turner birth place not known
Post by: Milliepede on Monday 13 May 19 11:36 BST (UK)
Am looking to see where this chap came from if possible.  The N/K is from the 1911 census.

I know a little bit as his marriage is online - 14 Nov 1903 Wroughton Wilts -
Charley Edward Turner age 20 to Beatrice Emily Barnes 20
He names his father as Charles Edward Turner a dealer.
Witnesses are both Barnes so no further help there.

The only other info comes from the '39 where he is Charles E and born 31 Aug 1884.

I've already contacted a tree owner with a Charles Edward but that one was born Lancaster and married in 1907 so can rule him out.

I don't know if he really did have a father with the same names who was a dealer or if it was made up.  Hoping we can find out as it would be lovely to be able to tell his grandson who is now 88.

Hello
I assumed that as he was born 31 Aug  1884 his birth wouldn't have been registered until the following quarter.
In that quarter are 4 Charles Edward Turners.
I can eliminate 3 but not the one in Birmingham
That one is an illegitimate birth.
If his mother then married it  could explain why he's not on the censuses till after his marriage in 1903.
Just a thought

Thanks for that suggestion Ciderdrinker.

There is a death in Birmingham in 1973 age 88 with a birth date of 14 Oct 1884 which unfortunately could be the one you found  :(

Sep or Dec quarter likely, surely??

Could he have been Irish - it does happen?

I hadn't thought of an Irish connection so thanks for the suggestion.

Yes I agree Sep or Dec 1884.

Been trying to look for the father, supposedly a dealer, but no real luck there either and if he was by chance "made up" he isn't going to be found.

There was a possible candidate born Dymock Glos who remains single till c1907 but if he was single then is it unlikely his child would have his surname  :-\
