Need help with age of people in the photo, please.
The older couple are my great grandparents, Hendrik Cornelis van Niekerk born 1849 Cape Province, South Africa. And his wife Johanna Wilhelmina Sophia Neethling.
The younger man I think is their son but I do not know which one? so if I can get an age for him it might help to identify which out of 6 sons he is.
Thanks

Mid to late 30's maybe for the chap on the right. They do look alike (the two on the right)

Thanks Milliepede
What is your guess for the ages of the older couple, would you say about their late 60's?

Could you post the whole photo including the back if you have it please.

Treetotal the photo is to large that is why I reduced it in size. There is no dates on the back only writing written by my aunt " Ouma & Oupa van Niekerk Mammie van Wyk se ouers."
in English Gran and Grandpa van Niekerk mommies parents.
The back has a cream canvas texture with VELOX 4 cm space Velox printed on it from bottom to top in three rows about 5 cm apart and a no. 2 367

Yes late 60's must be for the middle couple. Maybe the older is nearer the camera but she does have large hands!
I am fascinated by the woman on the left, her cardigan looks so modern.

The reason I ask is because the lady and little boy look to be dressed in 1930s clothing or even later styles which would put the older couple in their 80s? Could it be the next generation?

Millie :D when I first saw the photo her hands also were the first thing I saw.
The cardigan could be 1940's or 1950s
The younger couple could be grandchildren, but I do not think so.
My Ouma died in 1972 at the age of 81.
The young man could be her brother Jacob van Reenen van Niekerk born 1898 and died 1965 he was the youngest son. He had three boys born 1933, 1936 and 1943
I have another two photo's of the older couple, one of him and one of her. They are not as nice for they were photo copped, I do not have the originals. What age would you say they were in them?

Do you have a death date for the grandparents as that might help wth dating
-
Hendrik Cornelis van Niekerk b. 1849 died 1936
Johanna b. 1854 died 1939

I may be way off the mark here ;D is it possible that the person second from the right is male and
not female?
Regards,
Jen.

The older couple in the first picture are obviously the same as the other two. In the second photos they look to be in their 60's. In the group photo they look about 10 (maybe 15) years older so I would guess they must be in their 70s.
The younger man resembles the woman so he must be their son. He could be 30s/40s. The younger woman could be aged in her 30s. Her hair style looks to be 1930s, though she may not be up to date. :)
I am not sure how this works out with both of them dying in the mid to late 1930s. It might be easier to work back from the little boy if you can work out which of the sons had a son born in the late 1920s/early 30s. (at a rough guess)
