Apparently later this year there'll be another series, ... but Ronnie Wood won't be on it! If you believe the tales, his "water gypsy" (canal boatmen families) history was too difficult to unravel and present in the time frame!! Bet "Rootschatters" would manage it!

Looking forward to a new series. Shame about Ronnie Wood - I think that his FH would have made a really interesting programme . I've heard him speak about his canal boatmen ancestry before on a programme (can't remember what one ??? )
Looby :)

Most famously a member of the Rolling Stones, Xin.

Really looking forward to the new series of WDYTYA!
Does anyone know who IS going to be on it?
Romilly :)

The only other names quoted in articles about Ronnie Wood are Kate Winslet and Mark Wright ( reality tv "star"). The latter apparently finds an ancestor was a murderer.
Worth saying that they clearly hope to have Ronnie Wood in next year's series. " There was too much to be able to work through in time for this year's series".

ooooo -- sorry I looked him up :)
Yes I had seen his face before.

I'm currently watching WDYTYA USA. I never recognise the people on it but mostly their stories are very interesting. I'm looking forward to the new British series later this year

Also more recently known for being Fearne Cotton's father in law. ;D

Well so much for keeping that a close secret did not take long for some one to let the cat out the bag on that one

most Canal Boatmens history & family tree are complicated as most old boating familys are tied into each other pity some one let the cat out the bag now a lot of his family history wont be known to those outside the old boating family community

The current Australian Series 10 is worth a look too. It is showing on SBS if anyone has the means to access it.
Ronnie Wood's story sounds very interesting - I can't recall any others with canal boatmen ancestry. Nice to see some variety.

Ronnie Wood I know, but who is Fearne Cotton? ???

Here are the celebs for this year:
Kate Winslet
Daniel Radcliffe
Sharon Osborne
Naomie Harris
Paul Merton
Mark Wright
Katherine Ryan
Jack Whitehall
... and yes I have heard of them all, apart from Naomie Harris who I found out about by doing a simple Google search.

I bet she will come across well. It is often the ones one doesn't like who surprise us. (that's what I find anyway) :)
I quite like that lineup (though I will have to google a couple of them).

Now I know I am past my sell by
in MY opinion --- that series ---- is not for me.
The only way I can watch that is to concentrate on the history of the families as if I had never heard of the people concerned... difficult but it is what I have to do with the American show. ( I thought Sharon O was American!!!! .... ::) ::) ::)) and just discovered that Katherine whatever is canadian... thought it was a UK show this time...

I just received an email from FindMyPast offering a 30% discount off a 6 month membership to celebrate the new series of WDYTYA.
There was a Spoiler Alert and a little link - WDYTYA have "beaten the BBC to it" they proudly announce, and the link leads to a long article detailing Kate Winslet's family tree.
I've only had a glance so far - unsure if I will read it in it's entirety. It may give more details than WDYTYA as the programme obviously can only cover so much in the time they have on air.
-
I didn't know FindMyPast still did 6 month subscriptions. I haven't been able to get one recently. New members only?

Not sure if it is only for new members. I have dabbled in the past (I have never had an annual subscription) so am not exactly a new member.
I clicked on the link in the email and at it took me to this:

Seems a fine line-up apart from Katherine Ryan...
I found her irritatingly unfunny, there will be more soul in her deceased ancestors ;D

I've only heard of the first three in that list, but I'm sure it would be the same for those of you in the UK if you were to watch the Australian version.

Katherine Ryan's dad is Irish, she has often mentioned that on TV.
She spent a lot of her childhood in Cork.
And moved over here after graduating college.

Just as I felt about Boris (He Who Needs No Surname and no googling). That was many series past.
