My Auntie Phyllis (Phil Jenkins) looks to me to be about 10 in this photo. I’d like to find out which school she sent to. I don’t know if this is a school photo but I guess there is a good chance. My Auntie was born in Splott where her Dad had a Butcher’s shop. I’m hoping to use the names on the back of the post card to help find the school and class she was in. Any help or pointers gratefully received :)

Welcome to Rootschat :)
Do you know what her parents names were?
If she was born before the 1911 census should be possible to find her on that and perhaps work out where she may have gone to school.

Thanks. Yes. I have the 1911 census entry showing her living at 18 Splott Rd at age 1. Her dad, my grandfather, had the butchers shop. She may as a 5 year old gone to Splottlands or Moorland Rd. school. Have tried to find school records but no joy yet.

Have you thought about contacting Glamorgan archives and asking if they have any records for Splottlands or Moorland Road Schools?
https://glamarchives.gov.uk/
They have a contact page.
Or you could try contacting the actual schools themselves. Most schools have websites these days.

Thanks. Yes. I have found some of my relatives but not Phyllis. I know certain school records have been lost due to the bombings in WW2.

Interesting. I'm following the trail of the Hinton twins and have found a 1911 Census for what I think is the rest of their family living in Inverness Place. I'm starting to think that this may not be a school related photo with my Auntie in Splott Rd, the twins in Inverness Place and Lilian in New Zealand Rd. Girl guides perhaps ... Thanks.

If you look for Lilian R Brunt in 1911 and after her marriage to Leonard Moore in 1939, she is not near Splott Road but in a different area of Cardiff, so someone moved for school?

Did your aunt stay in Splott?

Did your aunt stay in Splott?
No. Good point! They moved to Mundy Place. Not sure when but quite possibly by the time this photograph was taken. I'll make a list of schools in this area and concentrate my efforts there.
Thanks

Mundy Place is a lot nearer New Zealand Rd!

And there were some Spicers living around the corner in Llanbleddian Gardens. Might be getting somewhere :)

Thanks. That is brilliant! All I need now is the 1921 Census to be published early!

The Census Act of 1920 means censuses cannot be released for 100 years. The 1921 Census for England, Wales and Scotland will be released in its entirety in 2022. The 1921 Census was taken on the night of Sunday 19 June 1921. I cannot imagine it being released early.
While waiting maybe try a different route. Local history societies have records of their local area with some having collections of photographs; there must be one, or more of them in Cardiff. Or try to pinpoint all of the names to see the most lkely location.
