From family knowledge, I was always aware of a Roche - Brennan marriage some time in the period from 1860s-1880s in the Taghmon or Glynn areas. But I could never find such a marriage in the original civil registration records in Wexford, which is where I looked.
Finally just found what I believe is the marriage in question in the Taghmon parish records
Thomas Roche = Ellen Brennan, 20/2/1873

The interesting thing is that, now that I know the date and place, there still seems to be no sign of this marriage in the civil registration records! Is that possible. Always been clear that there were many unregistered births and deaths, but marriages as well?

Plenty of unregistered Marriages too.... Anti-British Anti-Establishment thingy! Same with early Census etc

Yes, index has confused and mixed up the marriages!
As an aside, my parents and I had the "pleasure" of trying to read whole volumes of BMD registrations by this registrar for Taghmon & Glynn. Dreadful handwriting, the worst we saw in civil registration records. A gift that is still giving 150 years on!

I come from a VERY patriotic family.
Brennans made the pikes in 1798!
