Title: Thomas Wheller WILLIAMS of Llanvillo, County Brecon, Wales
Post by: Cienna on Tuesday 11 June 19 09:09 BST (UK)
Hello,

Can someone please help me with some info?, I was given the name of a father for Thomas Wheller Williams born 1769, Llanvillo, County Brecon, Wales, I have been given the name William Thomas Cowin Williams born around 1744 as his father and unknown WHEELER for his mother....not sure if any of the info is correct.

I would like to find out if any of this info is correct only  if possible please, and if there are any siblings....here's hoping.

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Cienna.

How did you get back to Thomas Wheeler Williams? When did he marry? Who are his children & when did he die?

The only parish records for Llanfilo I've found so far are on FindmyPast. There is a burial for a Thomas Williams of Trevithe aged 63 27 Oct 1826 but no matching baptism.

No records of Wheelers in the parish.

Nothing in NLW wills either.

Thank you osprey for you reply, I don't know where the name Thomas Wheller (or Wheeler) WILLIAMS comes from, he is my 4th great grandfather and this was the info I was given, I do know his name was Thomas but unsure where the middle name fits in....this info has been in the family for many years, no one seems to follow up on it.

He came to Tasmania as a convict and married in Hobart in 1808, he died in 1851 again  in Hobart.

All children to the marriage were also born in Hobart.

I am not sure about the Wheeler person but everyone has Wheller so I am at a loss......may be best to just sit on it and wait even if nothing can be found.......thank you again...and thank you for the link.

Regards

Cienna.

when and of what was he convicted? There may be a newspaper article.

What details are on his death certificate? Names of parents? Age?

What about his convict record? There's usually native place.

No trace of him in Llanfilo parish records so far.

I live about three miles from Llanfilo and can actually see the village from here since I am down in the valley and Llanfilo is on the hillside!  I am wondering too if there would be any information in local newspapers.  I think the National Library of Wales has an archive section which is online - I'll have a look later and report back.

Kindest regards

This is the info I have for Thomas Wheller (Wheeler) WILLIAMS: hope it offers some help.

OF PA. LLANVILLO, COUNTY  OF BRECON, WALES

TRIED AT BRECON G.S. 28 March 1801, together with Thomas Price (q.v.) for burglariously stealing from the dwelling house of Thomas Pritchard of Pentwyn, parish of Llanvigan, BRECON, one sheet, one gown, six yards of flannel, eight cheeses, tea, gin and many other goods. Found guilty of stealing but not burglariously. Sentenced to transportation for fourteen years. Goaled at Brecon and transferred to the hulks at Portsmouth. Thomas arrived in Van Diemans Land aboard the "Calcutta" February 1804.

Thank you both.
Kind Regards

Cienna.

the online newspapers from the National Library start in 1804 and I can't see anything in the other database I have access to.

I notice the phrasing, of the parish, that doesn't mean he was born there, just that he had been resident there. But Llanfilo baptisms for the period you want aren't online - they start from 1786, only marriages at that time.

There may be someone going to the Powys Archives who could check records for you. I'm not sure if the archives charge for research

The records are also at the NLW, but you would need to find a researcher to check records.

All family members have him being born in the info I forwarded to you, but like you say it doesn't really mean he was, I will try searching elsewhere and see what I can come up with, even if it is in vain at least I can say I tried...thank you so much for your help and fofr the links.

Kind Regards

the parish records for the period you need are NOT online. You need to use the archives or the NLW. These are the only places that have the records.

Thank you osprey, I really don't think I will have any hope of finding much more due to all the family having the same info, no one has been able to get any further back, your help is appreciated thank you.

Just read your chat re Thomas Williams. I have also been researching the same Thomas Williams, my wife's family and found two Baptism records for Thomas, both are from Talgarth, Breconshire, Wales about 3 miles from Llanfilo (Llanvillo). 1) 05 Apr 1772 & 02 Apr 1769, both Fathers re William Williams. I have no proof these are the Thomas I am researching, but it's the closest I have found to a match in a reasonable radius. Regards McFab

Thank you McFab for your input, I have found that Thomas's middle name is Wheeler not Wheller, it would seem his mother was a Wheeler and her maiden name was given as his second name.

Thomas is my 4th great grandfather, where does you wife fit into the family, I would like to know to see if I have her family in my records....and what state do you live in?

Thank  you again.

Thank you for the info, your wife is my 5th cousin, I had her parents name but no children for them, does your wife have photos of Thomas and Frances? if not I will be only too happy to send them to her.

I also have photos of other members of the Williams family, I also have the parents and  grandparents to Hannah (mother to Frances) and her many siblings and their families.

Kind Regards

Cienna.

Cienna, we would love to have any photos you have, we only have one of Hannah that I down loaded on the internet (Ancestry). Not to sure how to arrange it. We live on the border of Victoria and New South Wales Aust., so a lot would be depending on where you are located.
