Title: What happened to Ethel Helps after 1915?
Post by: Marmalady on Sunday 16 June 19 18:52 BST (UK)
A previous thread (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=728116.0) found that my Ethel Tee Helps travelled to Canada in 1915
She arrived in Quebec from Liverpool aboard the Metagama, intending to travel to Sackville New Brunswick to join her brother George Stanley Helps.

But what happened to her after that? Did she marry? return to England? or did she follow her brother to the USA when he moved to New Hampshire in the early 1920's?

Can anyone find any trace of her after 1915?

Have you checked with the cemetery to see if Ethel is buried in the family plot ?

Did you locate any obituaries for Eva or George ?  Or other family where Ethel may be mentioned ?

I haven't been able to find an obituary or grave photo for George & Eva. According to the Find-a-grave site, a King family are also mentioned on the gravestone, but I have no idea who they are. George & Eva did adopt a daughter Elizabeth, but I don't know what happened to her.

Ethel is not mentioned in the obituaries of either of her two brothers (John Sidney and William Ivor) who died in England. I haven't seen an obituary / grave  for her sister Jessie Pontin.

This is rather bizarre.... Findagrave has two entries for Eva and George.

Hi,
Ethel Helps, was she born in Wiltshire, in a place called Bradford in 1888 - 1891?
I have seen the ship record stating 1891 as her birth year.
Also seen other info with a birth year of 1888.

Mystery solved -- the burial ground is actually in the two different states:
"The main entrance to the cemetery is in Haverhill, Massachusetts, however the majority of the cemetery is over the border in Plaistow, New Hampshire."

So, as the photo is on the Massachusets entry and not on the New Hampshire entry, and as other sources such as the birthplace of some of the King family is Massachusetts, I will presume that the Helps family were from the Massachusetts side of the border unless I find some proof otherwise
