Title: William SHARPE
Post by: zylar22 on Monday 17 June 19 05:08 BST (UK)
Hello,
I am trying to find any information on my 3rd Great Grandfather William SHARPE.
So far I know that he married Mary Catherine CONSTABLE in Balmain Sydney in 1884. Registration No. 2123.
He died 1894 in Glebe Sydney. Records show his dad was Edward Sharpe.
I am trying to figure out where he was born. The year is around 1852 as his burial record said he was 42 when he died.
I am also trying to figure out who his mother was.
Thanks

Do you have a copy of that 1884 marriage cert?  It will likely have been reconciled to the church registers and if so, it will likely include the information that the bride and groom provided to the clergy when they married.

Thank you for your help. You have solved the puzzle for me. The only piece left to fill in is when he came from England to Australia, which is great.

Shume, as you have access to Ancestry, could you locate the page before the one I have linked, for the 1861?

No I haven’t got copies of the marriage or death certificates yet. All the information which people have found has been so helpful I am unsure if I really need them.

Well, if it were my direct Ancestor I would definitely be outlaying for the purchase of transcriptions.
The information will give you a foundation, free from uncertainty, about your early people.  From there you can move out in all directions to inquire about the extended family.

The information on Australian certificates is very extensive.
Among other things, you will be able to confirm his mother's maiden name.

Then how do you know that it is the correct William who is dead and buried?

The Rookwood cemetery records have William buried in the same plot as two of his children and his wife is in the plot next door with one of their other children.

I also have a newspaper obituary about his death which stated the date, location of burial, his wife and children’s names.

His wife is also a descendant of the Monaro Pioneers, which contains a database about her, her kids and that lists the year of her husbands death.

I do not have an account at Monaro Pioneers which seems to be required to see information.

Can you convey any information about William (Laurence) Sharpe from that site?
Is his date of arrival shown?

My William Sharpe’s wife was the granddaughter of John Oldfield Constable. She was Mary Catherine Constable.

Ah, Do you mean that your William SHARPE is mentioned on the database, but only insofar as being the husband of Mary of the CONSTABLE family?

Tricky when we can't see it ;)

Just for reference, neither of those are an ‘obituary’, but rather they are a funeral notice and an In Memoriam. An Obit usually has some information about a person’s life when they were living.
