This photo of a young girl was in my great aunt's belongings and I know nothing about it.
Somebody suggested it might be a confirmation photo. All I know is that it was almost certainly taken in east London.
Can anyone suggest a date and what she might be holding?
Thanks in advance/
-
It could be a confirmation certificate that she is holding...1915 -1920 give or take a year. She looks to be about 9 or 10 years old.

Also it is a studio photograph as you can see by the photographer's backdrop and fake branches are a studio prop. maybe a his res scan of just the document she is holding may lead to a clue, I thought looked like it may have a cross on the front but hard to say for sure.

Thanks Carol.
I wonder if there's a database of photographers' backdrops? It would help me possibly place the place it was taken.
-
I'm not aware of one, I doubt that it would help as photographers often travelled to different locations with their equipment and often operated from more than one studio. I take it that this is a postcard with nothing on the back.

Yes, no clue. I think it might be a relative so any date pointers would help.

Reply #1 is my best guess.

Tsu the clothing to me looks typically Edwardian maybe 1908 upwards.

Big Hair bows were popular around the first world war era.

Neither could I Hallmark, no joy in Photoshop, that's why I suggested a high resolution scan of the document.

Alas I don't have access to a scanner but I've dug the original out and it was taken by Griffiths in Bow London E3.
I can just about make out the words on the front with my magnifying glass and it says something like The Photographic (something). The logo is a dark K in a light circle.

Here's a photograph by Griffiths:

Also shows the back. They estimate this one as circa 1920s. I think yours is earlier and Ithink Carol's estimate is pretty close.

Have you looked through his large album, Tsu. There are a few Sampson pics in it:

I really enjoyed just looking through it. Old family photos are magical - a 'that has been'
:)

It looks like there is a Kodak Ltd. stamp box which dates between the years 1918-1935 and this appears to be from the earlier date.
