James Caulfield and Margaret Graham were married abt 1815 in Co. Tyrone, Ireland. Could be Coalisland where James' sister was married. The parents of James were Samuel Caulfield and Bettie Fergeson/Ferguson who were probably married abt 1785. I was told that Bettie was the daughter of Lord Fergeson. Does anyone have information on Samuel and Bettie? Thank you.

Have you looked on Fergusons of Ireland website?

I didn't know about that website but I have looked now. I didn't see anything as far back as Bettie who was probably born abt 1765. Thanks for your link to this website.

I have received some old family letters which say that Bettie lived in a castle and eloped with the groomsman who must be Samuel Caulfield.

Any Fergusons on that site with a castle?
-
I don't see any mention of any castles on that site. I did find some earlier baptisms this time which did include an Elizabeth in 1765 which is exactly when I estimated but the father is David in Donaghmore and there are no Davids in the descendants and it is not quite the right area. There is another Elizabeth born 1748 father James also Donaghmore, but she would be a bit old to be having son James in 1788, Margaret Jane 1794, and Mary abt 1800-1802.
I do find a list of wills which includes a Samuel Ferguson of Cookstown, right area, May 3, 1790, about right time, which is supposedly on LDS film 0100911. Wonder if it still exists. There is a Joseph Ferguson formerly Cookstown, late of Philadelphia, 1850, but he died intestate. Maybe brother.
These people might be worth pursuing.

I did pursue the will of Samuel Ferguson who died in 1790 but unfortunately, only the index card survives. same with the administration of Joseph Ferguson's estate. So Sad.

Nothing Registered at Wills/Deeds Dublin either.
Plus, one has to be careful with "family stories"! Who told you that Bettie was the daughter of Lord Fergeson? How do they know?

In 1959, A man called Thomas Joseph Duffin from Ballinderry Bridge in Co. Tyrone wrote to the Post Bulletin newspaper in Rochester,Minnesota looking for the descendants of his grandfather Patrick’s cousins James, Mark, and John who had emigrated to Minnesota in 1857. Over the years, the two families had lost contact. A lady called Marie Mounsey replied and said she had the family tree and had sent it to Thomas. The descendants of those families resumed contact and one of the descendants of Marie Mounsey kept many of the letters. Those letters reveal the tree and several of them say that Samuel Caulfield married Bettie Ferguson and that she was the daughter of Lord Fergeson. I did notice that you spelled Lord Fergeson the same way as it was spelled in the letters. I have been scouring the web to find information about Lord Fergeson but I have not found anything. I do not know know Lord Fergeson’s first name but took a chance on Samuel but his will does not exist today. I guess the letters are not “proof” but have details that have been working out.

Have you tried http://cfsna.net/about-2/fergusson-dna-project/ ?

That is a very interesting website. Unfortunately, I am not male and the only Ferguson that I have in the tree is female. However, further research may uncover other Fergusons.
Thank you
