Title: Looking for the death of Ann Newhall in Chicago
Post by: Revolution on Tuesday 20 August 19 11:51 BST (UK)
Ann/Anne/Anna Day married Sylvan Newhall on 19 Jun 1884 at Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. They had at least 3 children. She said her birth was 1859

her children

Agnes
Franklin
Francis

She is in the 1900 census living in New Trier, Cook, Illinois but by 1910 her husband has remarried to Helen McGill.

Ive tried searching for her on ancestry and family search with no death or burial record

They are of interest to me because I think shes part of my family line. My Ann Day was born 13 Apr 1855 at 2 Park Street, Stepney, Middlesex, England. We have her in the 1861, 1871 and 1881 census living in England but she disappears after that. When her mother died in 1884 shes still listed as living. If shes our familys Ann two of her brothers Charles Lewis Day and John Lewis Day both moved to Chicago as well. In the same 1900 census living a few doors down is John Lewis Day and his wife and children. That could be pure coincidence or a clue. My family also has two DNA matches to the descendants of Ann who have family trees but dont know who her parents were. This is probably because she may have been generous about her age.

Not much help, but there is a newspaper article from 1893 describing the wedding of Charles Lewis DAY and Lily Agnes MacLEISH.
One of the flower girls was Agnes NEWHALL niece of the groom.

Apparently Sylvan made a homestead claim on a piece of property in CO.  In 1906 he was mentioned in an effort to dissolve that claim, citing his lack of improvement on the property.

Passport of Charles Lewis Day states he was born 4 Dec 1860 in London and that his father was John Day.  He first immigrated to US in 1876

Florida death certificate states he was born 4 Dec 1859 in London and that his father was John L Day and mother, Jane Lewis.

Wow

Thank you all so much! It really is much appreciated.

That's 100% our family Ann and she did round her age down by 4 years.

I have the birth certificates of Ann and her siblings. In total three lines moved to the USA. Two to Australia and three siblings died young.

Anns father died in Okehampton, Devon where the Lewis family originated. They had strong connections there.
