Hi All,
I am trying to trace a Sarah Butterfield born c.1803 in Berkhampstead, daughter of Joseph Glenister.
Sarah marries as a widow in 1853 and lists her father as Joseph Glenister, occupation: Sawyer. Her spouse then seems to disappear and she then uses her first husband's surname, Butterfield, from at least 1861-1872.
A marriage between William Butterfield and Sarah Glenister at Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire in 1821 has a witness named Joseph Glenister who signs his name (likely her father).
Link to Sarah on my tree on Ancestry: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/8499087/person/-940510861/facts
I haven't been able to find a Sarah dau. of Joseph Glenister.
Any help appreciated.
Many thanks,
Richard

Sarah marries as a widow in 1853 and lists her father as Joseph Glenister,
Who did she marry?
-
Sarah married Thomas Spencer born c.1796 in Marylebone in 1853. He was listed as a widower but he disappears by 1861 and then Sarah continues to use the Butterfield surname. No other records match Thomas... he’s currently elusive.

When Sarah married in 1821, the witness, Joseph Glenister, signed his name. It would be interesting to see if this matches other documents which might have required the individuals to sign.

Could be worth checking in the archives of https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/eng-hertfordshire.rootsweb.com/2020/2/
Most of my families were Berkhamstead based and do have an isolated or 2 GLENISTER

I suspect that Sarah may have been somewhat older than she admitted to.
We know her father was named Joseph and there was only one Joseph (with wife Mary) who was having children baptised in Berkhampstead in the relevant time frame. They were Joseph Glenister of Northchurch who married Mary Flexman 16/2/1790 Little Gaddesden, Hertfordshire. Their children baptised at Berkhampstead (Northchurch) were:
William bp.21/11/1790
Sarah bp.16/9/1792
Elizabeth bp.23/3/1794
Mary bp.6/12/1795
Joseph bp.13/1/1799
John bp.21/6/1801
James bp.30/10/1803
David bp.20/4/1806
Thomas bp.5/6/1808
Her age varies between 1800-1806 and I suspect she could actually be the Sarah bp.16/9/1792 (who does not appear to have died as an infant). Both of her husbands were born in 1790's I note.
This family headed by a Joseph are the only such family having children in the relevant time frame.
