Title: Matilda McKimm born c1846
Post by: Westfrem on Sunday 25 August 19 12:21 BST (UK)
Hi

Looking for the baptism of Matilda Mckimm born circa 1846 (from death record 1913). She married Francis Whittaker Shaw in Tobercurry on 29th Sep 1869 and the marriage certificate gives her father's name as Patrick McKimm a farmer. Her place of residence at the time was "Branchfield?".
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

There is a possibility that Matilda was CoI as they were married in St. George's in Tubbercurry

Branchfield is an area and large house - It was the home of the McKim family

Based on the information from 1901 census http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Leitrim/Glenboy/Moneenshinnagh/1474822/  I did a search for Anne thereon and found her Birth registered in Manorhamilton District on The Irish Government BDM website

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp

This  has 3 stages to it as per attachment and the Captcha and Sign in page are all part of process the Irish Government BDM website and do not take anyone to any other website!

Registered BDM's to 1901 can be found using this Search where you might find other Birth, Death of husband etc then change Year range for other years etc as needed.

Anne's birth reg attached!

As they were not RC you MIGHT get Marriage for Parents!

presumably in looking for her baptism you are looking for both parents and information to go back rather than forward.

I can see her husband Francis died of arsenic* poisoning on Jul 18 1887
*corrected based on next answer and re-reading record
and that they had at least eight children. She is with Annie and Follis on the 1901 census and George on the 1911 census.
Her daughter Isabella married John TATE and it is their daughter that is with her on the 1901 census.
Her brother or nephew Patrick G. McKIM (F) Patrick of Branchfield
married Jane GINTY in 1913 and this line are still in Branchfield.
He died on Jun 23 1930 aged 74 implies born circa 1856.

Death notice from 2004 relates LINK (https://www.independent.ie/regionals/sligochampion/localnotes/tubbercurry-its-all-systems-go-for-local-projects-27540152.html) see just over half way down page.
This family maybe able to provide the information you are looking for.

If Patrick G McKIM is the brother of Matilda there are a few trees online showing them

His mother is shown as Anne (nee CLARK(E)) in most and his father as Philip rather than Patrick

Anne McKIM died in Branchfield on feb 04 1891 aged 74 and the informant was her son Patt G. MacKIM LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1891/06077/4733452.pdf) #198

Branchfield House (Leyny)

Description:   The residence of the McKim family for many generations, Branchfield was enlarged and extended in the later nineteenth century. At the time of Griffith's Valuation it was held from Catherine Gore by Patrick McKim and valued at £5. McTernan states that the lands were sold to the Congested Districts Board in 1910, though the family retained the house. It is currently undergoing renovation.

"..Then there is the McKim farm at Carrownacreevy or Branchfield, in the parish of Mullinabreena, containing upwards of 270 acres to which I have repeatedly directed the attention of the Land Commission. This land should have been acquired and subdivided years ago. There are a large number of uneconomic holdings in the vicinity. Unfortunate tenants are huddled in small farms on the side of the Ox Mountain in close proximity to this substantial farm, the subdivision of which would give much-needed relief. I hope no time will be lost in the acquisition of this farm....."

I am the current( McKim) owner of Branchfield House and a great grand niece (I think )of the last Philip Mc Kim from Branchfield........"

Thanks so much.
Can't believe how much information you have all found.!
I believe Matilda must have been Patrick G McKim's brother if his mother's name was Clarke as Matilda and Francis Whittaker Shaw had a son they named Follis Clarke Shaw.
George Warren Shaw and Isabella were Frank's parents (memorial)
Wow! Thought posting this was a long shot but had no idea!!
Thanks again

Yes George W(arren) Shaw. He did have a daughter Eliza Shaw and Matilda was the wife of his son Francis Whittaker Shaw.
Just to add another dimension to this complicated story.... Eliza Shaw married the grandfather of Olive Mary Nixon who in turn married her nephew Francis Whittaker Shaw junior!

Are these connected to either or both families or none?

I don't want to steer you wrong but from that thread I looked up stuff in Dublin...and from memory (as I no longer have this stuff as the other poster wasn't in contact since ) these Shaws were originally from Coolaney!

I think it was stuff about a Mill.

I will have to look further but maybe James McKimm was the brother of Matilda? James being the father of Eliza Warren McKimm who married John Tate.. I saw the 1901 census with Kathleen Tate (niece) so this would fit.
Interesting that Eliza has the middle name Warren as that surname comes from the Shaw side. Eliza Warren was the mother of George Warren Shaw. Mind you Eliza Warren's sister Letitia married Francis Whittaker (the parents of Isabella Whittaker who married George Warren Shaw - obviously cousins!).

What a tangled web! Time to count the toes.  :o

Kathleen TATE was the daughter of Dr John TATE and Matilda’s sister Isabella Marion

Phone acting up or I’d add link to her birth and their marriage which was in St Peter’s in Dublin.

Confused now 🤔 haven't had a chance to look yet but are you saying there were two John Tates? One who married Isabella McKim (sister of Matilda) and one who married Eliza Warren McKim (ah as she was James McKim's daughter she would have been Matilda's niece and not any daughter she might have had!)
Age would be incorrect too. Shouldn't jump to conclusions before finding all the evidence... My bad!

So now I've had a look and I'm not quite so confused ???
Robert Tate (who married Eliza Warren McKim) and John Whittaker Tate (who married Isabella Marian McKim) were brothers and sons of James Tate. Eliza Warren McKim's father was James McKim and Isabella's was Patrick McKimm.
Isabella Marian Tate died in 1889 at the age of 36 of chronic bronchitis.

Hi

I was interested to see that Matilda's mother may have been an Anne Clarke. My Clarke family are from Skreen, Sligo and a niece of my gt grandmother Margaret Clarke, had a funeral card for an Olivia Clarke Irwin originally of Tobercurry who may be a relative so I looked her up.

Olivia was born in "Tubbercurry" on 8 Sep 1832 and died in Chicago on 21 Apr 1902. Olivia, daughter of James Clarke,  married John Irwin on 7 Nov 1854. Their family were born in Riverstown including daughter Olivia Jane Irwin born 1 Mar 1866. Olivia Irwin married Charles John McKimm in Chicago in 1892. Charles John McKimm,  was apparently (I have not checked this out) born 1857 in Tiraree, son of Phillip W McKimm and Grace Smith.

I do have DNA matches with several people with MacKimms of Sligo in their tree, including this family, but as I appear to related to every other CofI family in Sligo, I could not say if I have an Ancestor named McKimm. I do have an Sligo Irwin ancestor, b c1800 of unknown location prior to her Skreen location, plus Wallaces from Easky and Livingstons from Killoran.

I do think Olivia Clarke had a brother Thomas Clarke of Tobercurry in 1901, (65, merchant) whose daughter Olivia was 23 in 1901. Thomas, son of James Clarke a farmer, married in co Mayo in 1867 to Catherine Cuffe.

Cheers

Linda

Matilda McKim was my greatgrandfather's sister. I have some information on my family trees. Can be of help - but literally just joined this forum so still figuring out how to use it properly!
