Title: Bridget Roberts/ Helion/ Healion, Moate
Post by: jayneroberts on Thursday 26 September 19 13:18 BST (UK)
Hi, I am researching my Husbands family tree, and I am looking for any information on Bridget Roberts/ Healion/ Helion, from the Moate area of West Meath. Bridget's mother was Mary Helion, and her father was John Roberts - a shoe maker, originally from Queens County.
The last known whereabouts I can find for Bridget is in the 1911 Census, where she is registered as a pupil at Mount Carmel Industrial School, Moate, along with 2 of her sisters. She was 9 years old at the time.
It would appear that her parents and brothers left Moate around that time as they do not appear on the Census records. I have managed to trace her parents and siblings to Dublin by 1916, although their whereabouts between 1911 and 1916 is unknown and there is no trace of Bridget.
Can anyone help with information about this family please

A Search like this doesn't show a Marriage or Death for her anywhere in Ireland or up to 1922 for N.I.

Thank you for your reply. I am new to this forum, and have posted in the wrong area, so I have reposted in WestMeath forum. I have checked the records, and cant find her anywhere

Yes, Kate and Jane are later found reunited with the family in Dublin. They married and their witnesses were Elizabeth (Lizzie) and their brother Francis.
I estimate that Bridget would have left the school by 1920, if the leaving age was 18. If that is the case the immediate family were living at Upper Dorset Street Dublin by then, but again no sign of Bridget.
There are numerous petty session records for both John and Mary Roberts in Moate up to 1911, but then nothing that I can find until they pop up in Dublin during the uprising

Thank you, I will contact them today. I just wish I could find out where they went from 1911 - 1916. Their son, Richard was in the Rising at the age of 12/13 years. He is my Husbands Grandfather, and the family received his medal for his part in it.
We also have copies of military documents, where the British Army searched the tenements looking for IRA members etc.
As for Bridget, we are at a loss

Have you ever thought she might have taken the vows

I hadn't thought of that. I thought she may have perished in the school and her death not recorded, or that she may have been adopted to an overseas family. Is their any way I could find out if she took her vows? wouldnt know where to look for that I'm afraid.

I see from the building return they are Sisters of Mercy
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003525106/

I had occasion to write to them a few years back and fairly promptly got a reply about my grandmother's sister Mary Anne Kent age 10

Have'nt got the reply to hand at the moment so not sure if she was released at 16 or 18 though they did say she came back to visit them in 1912 and one of her nieces joined the order.

Address and Contact details
