Title: Vaughan of Courtfield,Welsh Bicknor, Herefordshire
Post by: Lumber-Jack on Friday 27 September 19 15:57 BST (UK)
Hi Rootschatters! As in the past, may of you have kindly solved some brickwalls for me. Now I am stuck again!
I am looking for the family of Lt. Colonel John Francis Vaughan (1808-1880) ( wife Eliza Rolls) in order to trace the brothers of both the Colonel and the male siblings of Reverend Jerome Joseph Vaughan ) 1841-1896. As a young man, Jerome aged 18 ( circa 1859) may have had a son out of wedlock, possibly born in a nunnery, or similar institution for unwed pregnant mothers........it could get quite complex !!!

Thank you all for any hints you can discover.

 Best wishes from Canada, LJ

He died in Biarritz according to his probate.  Probate granted to 2 of his sons

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar?surname=Vaughan&yearOfDeath=1881&page=2#calendar

His wife is Mary C b 1821 Lymington Hampshire on the 1871 census - not Eliza - so looks like he remarried

Thanks again CaroleW and apologies for dropping the e in your name in my last reply! This means that we should be looking for possible sons by two possible marriages.....very useful indeed. L-J

1871 has a 19yr old dtr Margaret b Courtfield.  Birth on freebmd March qtr 1852.  GRO search shows mmn was James

In 1851 wife is Eliza L and they were living in the Monmouth RD but there is no death for Eliza between 1851-1852

Can't find them in 1861 - possibly on a missing entry

There is a tree on Ancestry showing his parents as William Michael Thomas John Vaughan and mother as Teresa Weld

His second wife was Mary Weld - you will find the marriage on freebmd in 1860

If you have Ancestry access here's the link
