-

-
Jane was born in denny 1842 .mary smith wife of Andrew was born in1792.
-
As your post refers to Andrew Gillespie can you please post what you know from certs & census records with dates/places/ages to save duplication of effort?

Is there a reason this is on the Sutherland board rather than the Stirling?

According to the 1851 census Andrew was born in Denny age 57 and Mary was born Kilpatrick age 50
-
There's a birth of an Andrew Gillespie in 1793 son of William and Janet nee Wilson that could fit
-
I think its correct that his parents were William and janet still wondering if he was the town blacksmith though . I meant to post this in Stirlingshire in the hope some of the family have photos or info about his work.

Andrew was a blacksmith in the census unless you are looking for his father's occupation then this maybe listed on the baptism record of one of his children or his marriage if that record survives
Added the marriage was 1792 in Denny

Looking between 1841/1851 there may have been 11 children to Andrew Gillespie & Mary Smith
1841 doesn't give relationships http://www.rootschat.com/links/01oh8/
1851 http://www.rootschat.com/links/01oh6/
William 1819 (not on 41/51 census)
James 1820
Margaret c1824 (same age as Andrew on 1851 census)
Andrew 1824 (mother recorded as Margaret)?
Robert 1826 (mother recorded as Margaret)?
Janet 1828
Mary 1832 (not on 1851)
Elizabeth 1834
Ann c1836 (not on 1851)
George 1840
Jane/Jean 1842

great thanks for that I suppose info on William and janet will be in parish records Gillespie is a gaelic name presumably highland wonder when the name came to stirlingshire
-
The list of children I posted are all on scotlandspeople.gov.uk apart from the 2 with 'c' dates who I found on the 1841/51 census'.
Often there's lots of info. on OPRs & other times not.

very helpful am I right in thinking that mary smith was his scond wife
-
If Andrew was the son of William and Janet then he would have been 25 on his marriage and the only other marriage of an Andrew Gillespie was 1812 then I would think this was his only marriage
-
very helpful am I right in thinking that mary smith was his scond wife
What makes you think so, have you seen his marriage?

I realise this post has been sometime ago but I recently did some research on the name Gillespie for a friend, they finished up in Ayrshire but I traced the line back to a couple of areas one of which was Stirlingshire, so I may have some earlier information. I have posted what I found mainly to consolidate the information already posted.
GILLESPIE ANDREW MARY SMITH 23/01/1818 Denny
Children born/baptised Denny
WILLIAM 1819, JAMES 1820, JANET 1828, JAMES 1830, MARY 1832, ELIZABETH 1834, GEORGE 1840, JANE 1842
Possible record for Andrew but there are others.
