Title: Deciphering a name on a marriage certificate
Post by: RGB on Friday 18 October 19 08:42 BST (UK)
Love any experts to have a look at the middle name of James Manning on the attached marriage certificate. We are at a loss and cannot believe it would be Typhus!

Many thanks

Agree it looks like Typhus but you might need to find another reference to him to double check

Googling "james typhus" brings up a gentleman called James Typhus Rhodes, so it might possibly be correct !

Typhus from the Greek meaning 'hazy/stupor'; doesn't seem any way that this works well as a name!

This comes from an 1892 marriage in Bethnal Green, London. Louisa Manning, daughter of James Typhus (indexed this way by a/try) Manning, a carpenter by trade.
