I am wondering if any forum member could help.
Constance Irene Lambeth married Derek M Barker. The marriage was registered in Braintree in Q2 1945. Constance died aged 25 on 9 Feb 1946, in Notley Rd, Braintree, after a short illness.
Can anyone track down her date and place of birth. I can't find it on free BMD, but it should be 1920/1. Also anything about her parents.
Derek was the son of a butcher, Bertie Maltby Barker from Lavenham, Suffolk. I am wondering if he had the middle name Maltby as well, possibly a family surname from an ancestor who I have not yet tracked down?
Thanks for any help.

Probably best to get a copy of the Marriage Certificate?
That will have Constance's father's name.
And also her marital status and any former names.
I am thinking that she may have married before, and her husband died during the war?

Indexed as Lambert - it may be worth investigating other Lamberts on the page in case related.

This couple may be relevant in some way.
Alexander McArthur born 3 November 1900 - father George Jamieson McArthur.
Maud(e) Elizabeth Lee born 18 July 1900 - father James Lee.
Married at St Michael's, Braintree, 19 Sep 1925. They seem to have lived at 113 Bleakhouse Rd, Oldbury/Birmingham later on pre-war - see reference to that address in the memorial notice.
Two McArthur/Lee births (1929 Epsom and 1934 Smethwick) may or may not belong.

There's also a pre-war link to 32 Notley Rd, Braintree as the residence of Maud Lee's widowed mother Ellen.

So you may want to look at whether Constance was a daughter of any of the following:
Ellen Lee (nee Hart) - b Braintree 8 Jan 1869 and marr fishmonger James Lee 1893 Bethnal Green. Widowed before 1911. Likely to be too old to have had Constance in 1920. Still lived at 32 Notley Rd, Braintree on her death in 1951.
or her daughters:
Lily Emma Lee b 22 Mar 1895 Bethnal Green - died unmarried, 14 Jun 1984 Halstead.
Gertrude Ethel Lee b 2 Dec 1896 Bethnal Green - died unmarried, Jun qtr 1979 Braintree.
Maud Elizabeth Lee b 18 Nov 1900 Bethnal Green

Thanks so much everyone for some excellent detective work. You have solved the initial question, but left me with a lot of scraping around with the extra clues in Birmingham etc. Always the way when researching 'the twigs on the twigs' of the tree. What would we all do without wonderful people like yourselves to help us with our research. Really grateful.

As an aside, there's an interesting story about Lily Lee.
Coronation Velvet 1937
- Messrs Warner and Sons, Braintree, silk mill
- commissioned to weave 41 yards of silk velvet, at Braintree, for Coronation robes
- to be worn by Duchess of York, Duchess of Kent and Duchess of Gloucester
- weaving entrusted to Miss Lily Lee, an expert silk weaver
- who will weave velvet on a hand loom at Braintree
- also helping Miss Lee are 3 sets of twins, all members of families of silk weavers migrated from Bethnal Green
- the velvet is described as "a work of art in the silk maker's craft"
- Miss Lee proved worthy of the honour of producing the superb material
- Miss Lee and Mr Sam Watson, who wove the velvet, received tickets for seats in Parliament Sq to view Coronation procession

How lovely! I had never before given a moment’s thought to how velvet is made.

I suspect that Constance Irene may have been 'adopted' (no official adoption records before 1927 alas).
Records show only one George Lambeth who was a fishmonger - he was bc.1877 Bethnal Green and married an Eliza Jane Dipple in 1904 Bethnal Green. It doesn't look like the couple had any children of their own. Eliza died 1933 Billericay, Essex and George swiftly remarries to a Lilian Esther Goodwin at Royston, Herts. in Mar.qtr.1934. They then moved to Devon for a while and then settled in Leigh on Sea, Essex. George died 26/1/1965 (probate to Lilian Esther) and Lilian Esther died 1981.
Since George and Eliza appear to have been together until her death in Billericay in 1933, and with no apparent children of their own, it looks like Constance Irene was probably adopted by them. However, with no adoption records available it is unknown as to her surname at birth and where exactly she was born.

Thanks again to everyone for some wonderful help with this piece of family research.
On a totally different tack, interesting to see avm228 has family research from Pebmarsh, Essex. A relative of mine, Robert John Cockrill, was a farm bailiff at Brompton's Farm in the village before being murdered and decapitated by Samuel Bentall Collis in 1896. Collis ended up in Broadmoor.
