Welcome to Rootschat but a few more details may help?

Where exactly did he die, where was his usual residence at the time, who was the informant as it's possible he was buried in the nearest cemetery according to his denomination?

It would be worth adding a few more bits of family history to help others to help you e.g. his wife's name, when/where she died as other little bits of info. could be key?

Annie

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

I can see Jane's death registration in 1885 - December quarter - aged 30.  However, I cannot see any other Elmore death registration in Leicester Registration District between 1885 and 1895.  And the only death registration for Alvin Elmore is in 1981  :-\

Amended:  Found Alvin - June quarter 1890 - Leicester Registration District - aged 39 = ELLMORE

Alvin and Jane were buried in Welford Rd (the main civic cemetery on the south side of the town).

Alvin was living at Milton St,St Margaret, at the time of his death; his age was given as 39. He was buried in a grave with 4 other people, none of whom shared names, so I suspect this wasnot a family plot; these are the plot details and "inhabitants"
Plot uS977
MASON MARK   buried 1874 SEP 5 age 37   abode SOAR LANE   ALL SAINTS
ELLMORE   ALVIN   1890  APR   2 age 39   MILTON STREET   SAINT MARGARET
MARSH JOHN WILLIAM   1898 JUL   27   age 9MTHS   DORSET STREET   LEICESTER
CORBELL OLIVE    1919 MAR 8   age 16   ROYAL INFIRMARY   LEICESTER
HUGHES   JOHN HENRY   1938 MAR   28   age 74   R.I. / 68 WHEAT STREET   LEICESTER   [ROYAL INFIRMARY]

Jane was buried in a different plot, in 1885, age given as 30.
Plot uR 2066
ELMORE JANE  buried 1885   NOV   5 age 30   abode LEWIN STREET   SAINT MARGARET

NEEDHAM   EDWIN JOHN   1895 JUL 18   9MTHS   JUNCTION ROAD SAINT MARGARET
SIMPKIN   THOMAS   1919 DEC   3   age 68   146 HARROW ROAD   LEICESTER
SIMPKIN   EMMA   1933 NOV   18   age 77   146 HARROW ROAD   LEICESTER

With this information you have a better chance of finding them in censuses, but don'tforget to look at the various possible spellings of the surname.

I think it's unlikely that either of these graves will actually have a gravestone.

There is a possible marriage for Jane and Alvin in Kettering, Northants, in 1872 - image of the marriage cert is available to view on Ancestry. Jane's surname Infield.

Hi Luke

Annie65115 helpfully told you that Alvin was buried in Welford Rd cemetery (which is a municipal cemetery in Leicester that was closed to new burials many years ago).

She also told you that as he was buried in the same plot as other people with different surnames this  means that it was unlikely to be a family plot. A family plot is one where a family buys a parcel of land in the cemetery and is then entitled to have buried several members of the same family. If a plot is not owned by a family, it remains in the ownership of the municipal operators of the cemetery who will use the same plot to bury several unrelated bodies as the land gets full.

As they are not part of a family it is almost certain that there will not be a gravestone.   So anyone going to Welford Rd solely for the purposes of looking for a gravestone for Alvin would be unlikely to find one.
